Some more of the ugly. For sure save able with some elbow grease. Brian is a good guy. He has had this listed for a while with no bites.

Keeping the front clip will hurt him in parting it out though.. As mentioned, there is all the desired pieces. I don’t see a whole lot of coupe specific stuff selling.

Unless you're the default guy for C body parts, (so basically Murray Park) you'll be willing the rest of it to your grandkids. Time to get real on the price as-is.

@jason99
Brian is firm on the $3000 price
Like @monaco75 said, he is a good guy
If you value
$1500 for 400/727 57k miles
$1000 for dash, no cracks, attractive color
and a fairly clean undercarriage, $3000 doesn't seem unreasonable to me, although I understand about additional cost of transport to Atlanta.
However, if you really want a 4-door, then maybe Brian's car is not the way to go.
I'll pm his phone #. Ben

Are these asking prices being paid? @cantflip and I have talked about rising prices for 440's and 727's in FL, I can't give away a core engine that others are asking $750-$1000.

As for the dash, I have no idea what they are worth, but is $1000 a going rate? I suppose a fusie dash has a full oad vs my partial/smaller pad in my slabie.

My ignorance thanks you for any info.

I just started tearing the crack-fee tan dash out of my Royal Monaco.

And here's your whole drivetrain with a free car.

Chrysler Newport 1965

I don't blame advertising for $3k, but i'd let a serious buyer talk me down, especially over a lifetime of weighing glove box doors and computing shipment to Bumfuch County, FL.

I was able to pick up a one crack, green, 75 brougham dash for $50 on ebay a few weeks ago (as a backup for my heavily damaged black, standard 74 one).

If he's really firm on $3,000 I'm not sure this is value for me considering transport costs. Still considering what to do.

A grand for a formal dash is just plain rape IMO lol. However, I’m not in a position of needing one.

I do agree he needs to come down on asking price for selling whole. But, I believe that time has passed as he mentioned starting to part it out on facebook last night. I just asked on a part lol.

Same story, different car on facebook. A guy had a 4 door small block ‘71/2? green Polara for sale all this last year for $1500. It was an $800(if that) car all day long. After throwing many fits about no one wanting to buy it, he’s now proudly posting how hes ripped the driveline out of it. Thinks he’ll get a grand for the small block setup... still trying to offer the now lifeless body for $800. Some just don’t get it...

That Monaco is beyond help. You might scrape a few parts off of it but all the higher value stuff looks trashed.

In my area, a good 440 long block core sells for $600, possibly more if it has forged crank. Any 440 that's running condition, complete carb to pan will go for at least $1000. With $57K miles, I suspect a lot more. The 400 motors are popular for stroking. I'd think a 57K 400 motor alone would go for $1000-1200. With an operational BB 727 behind it, $1500 would not be a bad asking price.

I'm not an expert on 74-78 formal dashes, but for a 69-73 fuselage car, if the wiring is all torn up and the gages don't work and the dash pad is heavily cracked, a crack-free dash with working gages and an intact wiring harness could easily go for a $1000. ABC charges $800 to recover a dash pad and Just Dashes is more like $1000. Compare that to getting a whole dash that's a bolt in. OTOH, maybe formal dashes in good condition are more common, and less valuable.

The front clip on that Monaco, including grill looks OK, with the exception of the area behind the beltline trim. For someone wanting to make a bluesmobile it could be worth a lot of money. 74 dodge Monaco 4-door sedans are in a different class pricewise than any other 4-door I've seen.

Formal dashes must be a lot easier to come by

Yeah, Brian messaged that he was going to start breaking the car down tomorrow.

I can get a 400/727 (might be motorhome, not sure) combo for $300, I got my 440/727 (motorhome) for $600. I got a rebuild 413/727 (car/truck) with Victor intake and carb, and aluminum Chinese radiator for $900. I have a hard time paying more, but that's me. I can get 440's out of RV's for cheap as long as I can get the RV somewhere to rip it apart. And then I can get more for the scrap once it's torn down. Clean up the mess and I'm still ahead. Glad I have plenty of core 440's but I'm always on the lookout for cheap running/spinning 440's when I have cash burning a hole in my pocket.

440 motor and trans, not running, owner wants $1500
1972 dodge 440 motor and transmission
413 & 440, this guy wants $1000 each, industrial truck engines
Super 70's Big Block Engine Sale
440/727 in a camper $1000
440-4barrel with 727 autotransmission
440: Here's a guy asking $6000 for his 1974 (cast crank?) "race" engine
440 race engine for sale or trade
440 6-Pack, 1970, guy wants $15000
$$$$$ 1970 440 6PACK ENGINE

I had a 1973 400 2 bbl that was a great motor. If someone had a 400/727 57K miles and I could listen to it run and see the owner drive it up and down the driveway, and it idled that smooth at $1500, I'd be interested. I'd make a counter offer to try and save money, but if I needed a motor/trans, I'd be interested and make the deal. Hell, I'd help the owner pull the 400/727 just to make sure I got everything I needed. I'd pull the timing chain cover and throw the nylon tooth cam sprocket and its chain into my recycling can, mount a double roller, then clean, paint, and install the engine.

Brian is going to put the 400/727 in a 73 Polara wagon, so I guess we won't get a Chicago price on it.

Only 400 I can find in our area, $725 for a motor sitting a long time and "tight" to turn

I'm just not going to be able to get $3k+$1k(shipping) worth of parts out of this. That would mean I'd need to make this my new project, but I wouldn't have much from my current I could swap onto this car, so I'd be stuck trying to resell that as I don't have space for two project cars. I'd love to see this not parted, but I don't think I can solve this in a way that makes sense.

An Open Letter To All You Pompous Commentators:

I was going to stay out of this, but you know what? I don’t care anymore. There is something seriously wrong with you people. You’re scared of a little quarter panel rust? Tears in the seats! trunk pocket gone! It’s not savable!!! Junk it!!!

For all the **** you people talk about people like me turning Monaco’s into Bluesmobile, Roscoe Cars, or anything else the deviates from what Ma Mopar was force feeding us, or the Derby guys that crush precious c-bodies, not one of you are stepping up to the plate to save a rare coupe that is far from roached.

3k for a complete, never wrecked 57k original mile big block 1974 Monaco? Absolutely. Little quarter panel rust and exterior roof rust? Big whoop. Anyone with a little brains and a Harbor Freight MIG welder can fix that. But I guess nothing will ever fix people’s ignorance.

A 1974 Monaco is way different than an ugly *** ‘78 New Yorker, a Royal Monaco, or a ‘66 whatever. You can play the 2k game all you want, but your comparing apples to oranges.

All you armchair quarterbacks can keep your opinions to yourselves.

But be happy knowing that you got your way, she is being parted and I have sold just the motor/tranny, subframe, and shell for close to my asking price for the whole car.

I have lots and lots of little parts that can be sold, oh and don’t forget I am keeping all the 1974 specific parts so I can build another BLUESMOBILE!!!

I can only hope I buy one of your Mint Royal Monaco’s and tear into it.

Sincerely,

Greenpeace for Monaco’s
