1978 NYB, 392 MILES,For the sceptics.

I just looked st the pinstripes on my car,and I dont see a difference between left and right sides??? I cant explain why they might be in the "wrong" place for 78,except to say,never say never,when it comes to mopar. perhaps the po preferred them like that,and ordered it that way.... Thank You all again for all your help,kind words,and skeptisism. it has been very helpful in confirming its status,and the claims that have been made regarding the build.

So I don't see any reason for surmising the previous existence of a second fender tag. Besides, supposing that something is missing would detract from the 100%-original, with-factory-air status of the car.

I believe the 2nd tag that this car might of had ws a Special Handling tag for possibly the paint. This car has an unusual color combo. Even though this color combo was listed in the Paint and Trim book I dont recall ever seeing another one. Maybe the original owner knew that and ordered this car knowing that it would be rare.
 
Too bad we can't talk to the original owner. I'm sure he had some insight on C-Bodies after owning 100 of them.

I’ve seen tags where there is a smaller inspection plate screwed to one corner. I have one on my vert. I also remember something about how the tag was often attached to one corner before paint, then bent down leaving a triangle area that was unpainted.

Isnt the drivers side stripe a lot higher on the car than the passenger side?

YES! In 1978 the pinstripe IS supposed to be at the lower crease! :confused:

All fender tags I have seen show a code for the pin stripes, in the second line from the top, preceding the P51 code, for example:

The tag of Richard's car has no such indication.
 
Should have a code K3X on the fender tag for black pinstripe. Or code K78 for a pinstripe delete option. The build sheet will clear that up.
Anyways, the stripe could of been installed later but it's definitely in the wrong location.

1974-1975 LeBaron and 1976-1977 New Yorker Brougham had high bodyside pinstripes. Only 1978 New Yorker Brougham had the lower bodyside pinstripes in combination with a pinstripe on the rear deck.

The combination of high bodyside pinstripes plus rear-deck pinstripe as on Richard's car is unique.
 
1978 C-Body had A LOT of only year stuff and numerous new innovations.
 
My guess would be that since they're not on the tag maybe the dealer put them on, and up high. Personally I like them up high, that why I have mine up high.

Me neither, that's why I was skeptical. I thought it would look crappy but I really like it now that I've seen it. To bad the seats weren't black leather to match the roof.

Still not sure about this one! No lower body pinstripe (maybe a re paint or touch up) an Imperial hood ornament (which looks ok) no interior pic's, no engine pic's, no underneath (frame, floor boards, trunk, gas tank). Honestly, I don't even see close to half of what he's asking! 400 miles or not... Sorry, just don't see it!
 
A very, very attractive formal...and most interesting thread to follow...
for me it falls on the opposite side of a personal usage spectrum...which is to drive and exercise old iron as much as possible...I would feel guilty driving and putting miles on this beauty...it appears more of a museum piece to preserve...being it's importance in the production line topic.
