1978 NYB New Engine.....

Bob, since you've started, from the first bolt turned and when the engine arrived, what unexpected bumps have you encountered.

The radiator not fitting. They asked if it was a 26" radiator and I said it was. They said it's a direct bolt in. It is a direct fit for a B-body. It was short 2.5" on each side for a C-body. Had to fab some aluminum mount plates. 3"×18"×.25".

Pretty much re-wiring most of the engine compartment because I decided to go total MSD ignition, The dual cooling fans and controller, A/C hose fitting conversion to Sanden system, eliminating the rest of the Lean Burn and any emission control devices and wiring, converting the charging system to a single wire 140 amp alternator. Power steering hose conversion from 6AN to Mopar steer gear. Fabricating 6AN braided fuel line from the fuel pump to the Holley Quick Fuel dual feed. That Tru-Trac serpentine drive system was a chore to put together.

I don't know what is different about this intake manifold but I barely have room to close the hood. I am so glad that I don't have to alter the hood at all.

I don't anticipate bottoming out the oil pan on the new engine but the old engine oil pan was pretty banged up. I'm thinking of fabricating a skid plate to protect the oil pan....maybe. I have north of $16k in this project already.

There were other pain in the ads issues like the vacuum tree breaking like a 78 wiper cam. I found a brass vacuum tree off a racing website. A little pricey $56 But it is bulletproof now.

Finding 6AN fitting/adapters for the fuel and power steering systems was a little challenging.

Finding a metal fab shop to get the aluminum stock I needed for the mounts took a few days.

You have to go to a 3"air filter wither the Perf RPM.
Bob, that engine jiggling around in there, the air filter will come in contact with the hood.

Screw it. Just do it. You know you wanna.

Maybe.....I'll have to do the tin foil ball test and check the actual clearance between the hood first.

Bob, if your hood is too close for your liking, I may have a Non-RPM Performer in my hoard that I would sell ya cheap. Lemme know.

Thanks....I still have a Performer intake from the old engine. And Mopar Performance Aluminum valve covers.

It's an RPM version, got one sitting in the garage, gonna be real nice on the Dart. I have a fiberglass hood with a HEMI scoop so I shouldn't have any issues. I think the NYB would look good with a low, subtle scoop. Cue Stan in three, two, one...

Hood clearance should be fine. Hell, if the TM-7 will fit in a Formal without any issues, just about anything will short of a tunnel ram. And, yes, I know from personal experience that a TM-7 fits. I used a 71 dual snorkel air cleaner with the TM-7 and Holley 4 bbl and it fit under the hood of a Formal without any mods needed. Hated that damn Holley though...
