1978 NYB New Engine.....

The manifolds not warped is it Bob?

Maybe....

I didn't see any cracks or abnormalties but it could be cracked or warped. I did install new exhaust manifold gaskets. The engine has aluminum cylinder heads so I know that they are machined to a true plane.

If you pull the manifold back off, check with a straight edge to see if it's flat. If it's not flat any good machine shop can flatten it. If you get a different one I would still check to see if it's flat and have it machined. I am sure the heads are flat

Well, today would of been a great weather day to work on the Blue Beast. But as usual, I'm waiting on one key parts(s) to get going. The one piece holding me back today is the manifold bolt set I ordered from Year One. Not exactly the right stuff but enough with what I have on hand to swap out the passenger manifold. Jeez, Monday will be 10 days to get something from California. Still have the Sanden compressor hoses to fab and some wiring to finish. Screw it today.... I'll cook something on the grill and enjoy the day.

Passenger manifold has to come back off. I did get another manifold from Gary (Wolfen). The old has to be cracked somewhere.....

I apologize for not saying that Year One does not have a manifold bolt set for a C-body. I ordered one for a 68-70 B-body that has enough pieces to kind of make it work.

To get a correct set of 1976 440 exh manifold bolts/studs, I had to order two sets from two other different applications to mix n match correctly

I have a new (used) manifold and 2 sets of 68-70 B-body bolts now from Year One so I should have enough to do the passenger manifold correctly. That is a shame $55 each for the wrong set....for $10 worth of bolts.

Nothing other than different configuration than B&E manifolds so the stud lengths are different. No one sells a complete set for a C-body that has all the correct parts. I haven't found any other place except Year One that has the correct hardened studs but need 2 sets to make the correct set for a C-body. I have a small machine shop in Baltimore that fabricates studs and bolts and things but they don't have what I needed now.

They deterioated and fell off the old engine.

Not using them with aluminum cylinder heads and MSD wires. Just the manifolds and 1969 440 Felpro exhaust gaskets.

Just caught up on this thread, congratulations Bob, your getting closer and closer! Keep up the good fight, it will be well worth it!

Don't get me wrong....I don't have a problem spending the money. I just want it done right the first time with the right hardened studs and stuff.

First off I would give a shout out to Gary (Wolfen)!

I had to do a little surgery to prep the exhaust manifold I got from Gary. I had to punch out a broken bolt and true up the mounting surfaces with a flat file. This manifold was definitely leaking on the last engine.

I got the manifold prepped and on the NYB and fired her up. Finally, the exhaust leak is gone! My old manifold had to have a crack somewhere.

Thanks again Gary!!!
