2017 Carlisle Chrysler Nationals July 14-16

Thank you. I know Carlisle is a big event for you, and you have really been such a gracious host to so many of us... I can't imagine anyone getting their panties into a wad over you (hopefully) getting to control where a tent is placed in the name of the group.:thankyou:

I never felt a tent would go over big. Again, most like to sit with their car and in class. . A tent becomes a burden, it needs chairs and likely stocked coolers. I already have that at my locations.

I'm sorry... I must have misread the desire to get one. I liked your setup fine, all I really desire is a place in the shade and where I can abandon a couple chairs and maybe a cooler. I hope to be as mobile as I was last year... there is way to much too take in to just sit and look at your own car.

BTW, have you figured out where you are staying this year? I see the Hampton is sold out already.

Does that mean your going to be in the swap? I will be sure to come and participate in a cold adult beverage with you this year
I will stop in plenty of chairs and all the family goes away just my son and another friend that has a swap spot also.

That's awesome... I thought about that... $90 swap space and camping would beat hell out of 10X that for a motel room. I just booked at the comfort inn down by the turnpike, I think they're the ones who screwed Dave over last year, not sure and too lazy to check.

I could do a shift in the swap, but I want to run around all day too... I did look to see if there were spaces over by Will's just thinking that wouldn't be so bad if I had a camper.

Not to throw a wet blanket on the enthusiasm, but the guys at another forum tried doing the tent a couple years ago and it really didn't work out. You can't depend on it being near where the cars are parked for one thing. The other is as Dave said, everyone would rather hang out near their own cars.

Correct, way too much. And as you saw last year I am elusive at my tent but that's the best place to find me . Some also like the get away base of their own car.
BJ is correct, the Drydock tried this several times and it never worked out....

I will call this my misunderstanding... my preference is to spend a lot of time walking, and I already have so many really good folks I want to spend a little time with... A set location for me isn't very desirable.

If there is ever a way I can reasonably do something to improve the experience for the group... I'm interested.

If there is no leverage in registering FCBO as a club, may as well drop the issue... we will never have really big numbers and I could give a crap about decorating or manning a tent for the sake of the tent. I would sooner buy another canopy to contribute to the shade somewhere, or bring a supply of water, chairs, whatever...

I don't mind being the ambassador if needed , I just don't think a big old central location is needed or even wanted.

I need to ask Rip about the auto train again. Looked at that last night too while the neighborhood artillery was going on (idiots and fireworks, love that part of Florida), About a grand round trip... and $1500, if you want a bed. I have an Uncle in Vienna I could impose myself on... but I am thinking the break even might not be worth it to me after all.

I was trying... seems it was a misguided effort. If there is anything I/we can do that is of benefit... please let us know. I am thinking of trying to get the Garlits folks to recognize us... just to keep the small gang that shows up close together there. Will may have already straightened that out for us though.

I know guys that did the auto train from Virginia, south to Florida and drove North in the power tour out of Florida. They all said it worked out great

Rip just did it a couple months ago and was happy too. I am still figuring out my plans.

I have another parts mission to run over on the wrong side of Ohio and I would really like to spend at least a couple of junkyard days before the event... plus I have to annoy my mom and sister in Pittsburgh... the family event with my father's side is still up in the air... I have a week after Carlisle to find my way home and recover a little...

I know it sounds busy, but I won't be punching a clock or real worried about deadlines... I have the ability to cancel my reservations... I just didn't want to wind up in the fleabag motel again.

The closer you get to Harrisburg, the more chance you have of getting a place at a late date.

We stayed at the La Quinta in Mechanicsburg. It used be the Baymont. We won't be staying there again.

I haven't decided on a place yet. We usually stay a half hour or so away from the fairgrounds.

I like to be as close as possible. ..less driving, less dirt on the cars that I have to clean off, the go carts are in town too

Friday and Saturday $179 ea other days $149... just a touch more than last year... but this place actually has a star rating... for whatever that's worth. There's no way I want to be re-washing a black car all weekend... and I'm certain I will be doing it by hand this time.

I would love to be closer to some of you folks (like Bob) to grab diner and shoot the breeze over a cold one... but based on the amount of time I spent in the fairgrounds last time, I don't know if that would benefit me much this year. I will have a drink or two during the afternoon... but I won't drive for several hours and I don't want to be too far away if I decide to walk back one day.

Last year I left all my cars on the fairgrounds and drove the truck to the motel. Circumstances allowed us to make the best of a bad situation. A half hour drive back and fourth sucks with the local highway traffic.
The products BJ mentioned does nothing for bugs in the grille and radiator but are worthy for paint

Reservations in Mechanicsburg Hampton Inn, yay! Will be carless, but finally planning to go.
