Well everyone, there are now over 30 cars that have registered for the Volo C Body show, with a little over 50 people coming. Thanks to all the FCBO members for keeping the information on the event active, and posting on FB.
As some of you know, the Volo Auto Museum closes at 5pm daily. They didn't run us off last year at the stroke of 5, but we pretty much packed up and were gone by 5:30/6pm.
With that said, since we have so may cars/people coming to the event, 5pm seems too early to part ways with everyone.
A little while ago I spoke with the owner at the McHenry Outdoor Theater, which is 4.3 miles from Volo Auto Museum. (it's a Drive-In theater) and told him of our show at Volo, and asked if he could make accommodations for 30 to 40 "old" cars.
To my surprise, he was very much so interested, and told me he'd have us all park together in a "flatter ground" section in the parking/viewing area, which happens to be "one of the best spots" as it was stated.
The owner also mentioned, June 22nd is going to be a busy weekend, because that's the weekend of the new Toy Story movie being released, and he's expecting a big crowd. There's a double-feature, but he hadn't selected the 2nd film yet.
The drive-in opens at 5:30pm, and he is expecting a line of cars at the enterance before they open, But...for our group, he will let us all drive right in together, through the Exit, and park in our designated spot, so that we won't have to sit in line with all the mini-vans and suv's at the main entrance, waiting to get in.
The Drive-In Admission Fee is $12.00, $6.00 Seniors/Military/Kids
This is just something I thought to do as something we all can do after the C Body show. Nothing is set in stone yet.
I'd rather be pulling in this drive-in for a Dirty Mary Crazy Larry or Thunderbolt & Lightfoot or some other car-type movie, than Toy Story, but it is what it is. At least we can all park together and not be scattered all over the parking area.
I let the owner know I'd call him by the end of the week once there is some feed back from this forum.
So let me know, if anybody thinks this is something we could do or want to do, after the show.
If only 4 or 5 cars want to go, probably not a good fit, but if there are 15/20 or more are interested, I'll make the arrangements, and lock in our parking space.
