Does anyone here have any opinions on the 440 aluminum water pump housings sold by 440 Source? if I decide to purchase one, it will be for the pump housing that has the exit on the driver's side.

Any input regarding quality control issues or any sort of flow problems would be very helpful. I understand it has been mentioned elsewhere on this site that some people have had difficulty with these housings, and have had to remove material from the inside to correct flow issues. Has the manufacturer made any modifications to the housings to deal with this, or is this only a problem encountered with higher horsepower engines? Is it nonsense altogether?

I got mine from Mancini....

I bought a old one from a member here(used). He had overheating problems with it. I have not put it on the car, lazy I guess. If you look inside compared to a stock cast iron one some of the bumps look sharper (worse for flow).
I was tempted to open up see of the skinny passages for peace of mind.
My Milodon setup on another car has never had a problem.

Well a 440 source water pump housing is in my stroker. In considering it I had read of problems with it. But in my research this was quite awhile ago. I spoke to 440 Source about it directly and they said yes they had problems years ago and that had been fixed. Since my engine isn't up and running I have no report. Bad news tends to linger it seems. Heard the same about 440 Source Stealth heads [They cracked I think} and again they admitted they had a bad run many years ago. Not saying you should get the water pump housing but that is what I have to add to this topic.

Me Again,
Two Cents Worth & You Might be Entitled to a Refund!
About 12 Months ago I Purchased an Aluminium W/P Housing. (And Yes Dagnab It, That is the Right Way to Spell It. LOL)
They were Super Cheap, Over here Normally about A$180 got one for A$36.
A Friend Pointed Out that There had Been a Porous Batch Dumped on the Market, This Might be One of Them.
Told Him a Decent Coat of the Right Type of Paint Inside & Out would Most Likely Solve Any Problem.
Car Not on the Road Yet So I Can't Give Advice.
But I've Also Just Bought a Couple of Aluminium Water Pumps, Again Dirt Cheap.
Faulty ? Don't Know, But they come with a Warranty & I'm a Sucker for a Bargain.
(Every Penny Saved is a Penny That Can Be Spent Somewhere Else on the Car. And I have Discovered 50+ YO Cars Need Lots of Pennies.)

How much weight is saved....maybe 10-15 lbs?

I'm always weary when it comes to mixing metals across a sealing surface on an engine.

I just purchased this one as well for my 66 Fury w440. What material did you use for the heater hose fittings; stainless-steel, aluminum or OE steel? Also, where did you purchase the fittings at?
You don't want to mix stainless steel with aluminum. You'll have corrosion issues between the two materials.

IMHO, though.... If you are worried about losing a few pounds enough to use an aluminum water pump, it only makes sense to me that you would be ditching the heater hoses and heater. If not the heater, at least the hoses as it's not only the weight of the hoses, it's the weight of the coolant inside them.

Good point. I will look to purchase aluminum heater hose fittings to attach at the new aluminum water pump housing. Thank you.

Well I finally have actual user info on this now if anyone is interested. I have the 440 source water pump housing as well as the 440 source water pump on my new 440 stroker engine. In fairness since it is a new engine build I did have the stock radiator re cored as well as a new heavy duty fan clutch as the old one was tired. I reused the factory fan shroud and fan. My old 440 engine with the old radiator ,fan clutch etc would rise in temp sitting at a light or crawling through traffic and was slow to cool down when driving. 195 to 205 or a bit more so not bad but enough to make me a little uncomfortable and watch it while stuck in traffic. Now it is really solidly around 180 and max is 190 ,quick to come down too. Take it for what it is worth but I am happy with it.

Here it is before the Turquoise paint. Got rid of the chrome water hose fitting,,junk apparently and used a stock one.

what torque value(s) did you apply to:
-bolts tightening the aluminum water pump housing to block?
-bolts tightening the aluminum water pump to aluminum water pump housing?

I had the engine built for me. I will ask if he remembers or maybe the specs are on the 440 Source site.
