Mine leaks, and none of the aftermarket pumps seem to fit/mount up correctly. Any advice on a replacement?
Thanks

Which one? There are 3 manufacturers and they are not interchangeable. You could have a Saginaw pump as well.

It gets worse. Mopar Mall wants $488 with a $250 core charge. I know how you feel. I need 2. Both the 1 in my 65 Monaco and the 1 in the 66 New Yorker are leaking.
They definitely aren't cheap. Unfortunately that's true for any Mopar parts

You are probably better off repairing yours. More than likely it is the shaft seal. Get the mopar seal Pn: 1734913.
The aftermarket seal I tried leaked (National 8773S)
They seal good around the shaft but leak around the outside because they don't have the rubber seal at the bottom like the mopar seal has.
I had to learn that lesson last year when mine was leaking.
$70.00 for the good seal is well worth the effort rather than the big bucks they want for a new one.

Pretty sure my reservoir is leaking . I tried patching it but doesn't seem to hold for long .

If the big O ring is the culprit, I clean it up good and smear a bit of black RTV on the O ring and put it back together. They do make new O rings but I like to give the new ones the same treatment just for good measure. Check it over good, it more than likely is the front seal weeping. It don't take much of a leak to make a mess.

How difficult was it to get to the seal and are there any special tools required?

I have the FSM, but I always like to hear from someone that's don't the job already.

You need a puller to remove the pulley and access the seal. If you don't have one, most auto parts stores have one for rent. You need to remove the reservoir to re-install the seal and pulley. If you don't get a new O ring and gasket, you can smear a little RTV on and put the reservoir back on. Not a hard job at all. Clean it all up and repaint it semi gloss black and save yourself a bunch of money. If you use the factory seal, it should outlive you.

Do you need a press to put the pulley back on?

My vise opens far enough so I used it. A press would be preferred but I would think you could tap it on with a block of wood and hammer but you need to support the rear of the shaft somehow. It has been a couple years since I did mine but I think the shaft is recessed about 1/8" on the rear of the pump so you would need a spacer or a nut or something to protect the snap ring from damage.

So did we ever establish which pump he needs? Saginaw or TRW or Federal? I have quite a few, and remember taking a couple to a company called Steering Solutions here in BC, they rebuilt them for about $135.00 apiece. I might have one if you know what you need. PM me with a photo.
