I have pretty much done everything thing else myself on this car except for body work. I have a hard time giving my money to someone else when if I take my time and do a little research I am fully capable of doing it. I like to learn new things and understand how things are constructed and work. I have built an addition on my previous house. Built two garages , mine all by myself hiring only the concrete pad and garage door installation, and helped my neighbor working with his father in law who is a custom home builder. The second time with the homebuilder I learned a lot more. I have built bedroom furniture, built in cabinets, bars and many other projects.
Back to the task at hand in upholstery. I have covered stools, chair, but my largest endeavor was restoring a 1900’s button tufted fainting couch. I put it all back to original which required re-tying the springs. Making a pattern from the old button layout and hand tying over 100 buttons. So I consider re- doing my car seats back to original my next course in learning. I also have an upholstery sewing machine that I bought about 8 years ago for this project. My only use up to this point has been a couple of awning repairs, tailgating tent repairs, and installing windows in the tailgating tent sides.
I will post a few starter pictures here, but should actually start an Upholstery Restoration thread to chronicle the steps and things I learn going through this process.
I will also make a master set of patterns on canvas (8oz painter drop cloth) that should cover the 68 Dodge bench seats with the split back L4 & M6 interior codes.
