68 Polara restore back on

Thanks Mike. They did a great job. I feel the need to wrap it in foam while I am putting it back together.
I need to hook my computer to my 40” tv and slide show my disassembly photos to remember how everything goes. It would probably go a lot faster if I review it first. 10 years is a long time to remember how the trunk seal installs.

It would be so much easier if it would clip over the edge of something. I will have to prepare like a surgeon. Cover everything except where I am going to operate. I tend to get glue and caulking all over

Sounds like your going to start with the seals, one thing at a time and soon you will be out cruising.

More pics. A little more abstract. It is difficult to see where the car end and the garage starts with the reflection.

Door seals and bumpers installed.
Had to cut the little bumpers to size as they were too long. Will have to clean up and detail the latches soon.

Trunk seal. Masked around where the seal goes so I didn’t get glue all over. The seal was a little longer than I needed so I found the center of it and started up by the window. Used clamps to hold it in place and glued it in sections so I wouldn’t get glue all over. Topside first. Then the two sides and finished up in the back. Have a couple of little glue spots to clean up but not bad.

Some might say the weather strip seam is not centered. They are correct it is offset to the right a little. My before picture was the same way. It wasn't centered from the factory.

Trunk mat I ordered 10 years ago.

Shipped July 2007. I am sure the printed pattern is much sharper if I ordered a new one now.
I cannot clearly remember the pattern of the original as I was probably 10 or 11 the last time I saw it. I remember it being black and white with some sort of pattern.

Any one have a picture of the proper bolts for the trunk hinges in 68? Markings? This was one of the items on the car when it left 10 years ago. I am thinking I might be missing a couple. I got these installed and some loose painted back. The one with the SEMS marked one with the large washer makes sense but only have 1. The one marked 23 could also be a possibility but again only one. I do have 4 which have a G on them but washer seems small.

Time for another update.
Body plugs in passenger compartment and trunk. Axle bumpers and rear shocks installed. Brake line, fuel line and fuel vent installed in trunk. Main body harness routed. Emergency brake cables routed.

Checked all my frame and rear suspension bolts and torqued them to spec. Once I get the fuel tank in and all the running weight in the car I should probably loosen the shocks and shackles to let the rubber relax in the normal position. I think once I have all the weight in there I will loose 6” of tail height. Just a guess. I could have the family come out and sit in the trunk and rear and get close.
I cleaned up the fuel tank with a wire wheel and gave it a coat of tank tone. I decided that I should seal it after looking at it closer. I could probably rinse it with muratic acid and then fast etch it to get rid of the surface rust, but if I am going that far I just as well seal it in case there are any seam leaks.

Ran into a couple of issues with my wire harness I re-loomed. The lesson here is to have your car on hand to verify where the wires leave the loom. I found I ran my fuel sending wire about the same distance as my trunk light when it should have left the harness about where the fuel vent routes. I had to fish the wire out of my new loom and re- splice. Also I found when they rebuilt the lower portion of my trunk filler panel they didn’t leave a hole for my license plate light. My wire harness hold down straps are also missing. They may have been rusted away. I will have to think of an alternate way to replace/ replicate the wire harness hold downs.
If anyone has pictures of the trunk filler panel license plate light wire hole and wire retainer straps back there.

Installed my hood rubber bumpers, wiper motor, cowl cover and window washers. F’d up the new washer hose. I cut it using the old as a pattern forgetting that so 30 years ago the original tee broke and I put a different one in changing the hose length. Its now about 2 inches short. I should just splice it, but my anyal tendencies may not let me.
Cleaned and zinc phosphated my hood insulation and hood seal clips.
The molded hood insulation from REM is ok but not a perfect fit. I had to relocate a couple of holes. Installed alternator.
