Thanks man! Hope to get it buffed out this weekend and start putting it together again.

Thanks for those pics Mike.
Really interesting.
The floor shifter looks correct. It's not modified or fabricated up.
I would love to know what he used.
Umm, sorry about that hole in the floor, Mike. You can get around to it someday.

Do it now. Once the car is back on the road you'll lose your incentive.
Now let's give that beautiful car the hump it deserves.
And the bolt on one of those levers looks a lil gnarly. Let's get that fixed too. :D

And..........
I found your shifter for your A745HD 3 speed........

And your tranny...

In 1961, a heavy duty version of this transmission was introduced and carried the name A-745. The A-745 was used in taxi and police slant six applications as well as most larger V8 applications (361,383,413) and 100 and 200 series trucks. Contrary to what was published in the Mopar Chassis Manual, The A-745 was not replaced by the A-903. They were used concurrently as the standard and heavy duty counterparts through 1971.

Great looking paint. I'm looking forward to seeing this car going and being together.

Don't tell Stan, but I think he's right. Take care of the hole in the floor, and that wonky looking fastener.

Thank you! It is coming along good. Its looking like sunday or tuesday a co-worker is going to come and buff it out, then it will go back together quick. I think today the z-bar part should be back, I hope! Oh well if not then maybe monday. Thanks for all the kind words, it makes it worth all the work when others can enjoy it as well! kmccabe56, I wont tell Stan and will handle it!

I know it's been said already but what a great thread, I can't wait to see photo's after the buff job. I'm so psyched you would think it was my car, (I wish it was.) Keep up the great work, I'm going to go stare at the pile of parts that used to be a 1972 Polara.

Thanks polarus! I will try to get it outside tomorrow and get some good all around pics. That'll be better that the garage ones on here now but you can get the idea I guess. I got the wheels primed and hope to get them painted tonite and put them on next week.

Hey Mike,

Great car, hope to get mine in the same shape one day!

Also, have a big interest in manual gearboxes/transmissions. Regarding the A-745 / A-903 / A-230 units, there seems to be conflicting information out there on the web, I really would love to get this cleared up:

A-745: Have read that it was used 1961-1971, HD applications (does this mean ALL V8s, or just high-power small blocks & all big blocks?)
A-903: One source says used 1960-1972 with Slant Sixes, whole another says 1960-1970 for 6-cyl AND low power V8s (?)

A-230: One source says used 1973-on with Slant Sixes, while another says 1970-on (specific engine applications not stated?)

Information/thoughts very much appreciated, thanks

Cheers, Aidan

Can't help with those questions but I do have 3 OD 3 speeds, or 4 speed overdrives if you prefer, if you decide you want an overdrive

Thanks Aidan! I do not know much about those or what they came in? Maybe commando1 might know more about that? Good luck with your car!

Seeing as how the 3 SPD came from a 69 (?) 383 RoadRunner, I'm going with the A745.
One way to narrow it down for sure:
Mike, was first gear synchro or non-synchro?
Maybe when you can grab a few seconds in your busy schedule, you can snap a few pics of the tranny itself.
BTW, was there a build sheet?
