'69 Fury III Convertible Build Thread- Project IVY

I always determined what I liked best about another's make, think about what Mopar made them look sick, and buy that car.
Right now I am so smitten with the over bloated 70's wallowing gas hogs, my wish list goes out the door.

Already determined next project will be one of my favorite vehicles, a '67-'72 GM Pickup. Easier to get parts for.

I like that body style. Especially straight side short bed. The long beds are cool too. I'm not a huge stepside guy even though the only one of those I ever owned was a 69 stepside. 3 speed with a 307. Not a great combo...

I'd like it to be either a shortbed step or a longbed fleetside, thinking bigblock power and a modern 700R4, would be nice to find a '67 or '68 Small Back window cab.

I absolutely love the simplicity and minimalism of these:

Next-door neighbor has one, a '70-'72 (never asked) long-bed, brought up from the southern states. He hardly ever uses it and it sits outside 12 months a year. It had been repainted a few years ago and still looks good, though the steering wheel is basically sun-rotted to nothing and needs replacement - you can buy original-style ones repro now. I keep expecting his wife to tell him to sell it but so far he's holding on to it. Would be a cool thing to have.

Meant it as a joke figured if anyone would understand you guys might, that hood is scrap. Full of Rot, I stripped it of everything I could and cut the only section of original F8 I have out of it, it's going with a bunch of other parts to my favorite scrap yard beginning of next week.

I'm truly just tired of people (not you guys, I have appreciated your imput) telling me how I should restore my car, I'm funding this restoration out of my pocket with my hard earned cash, if I choose to keep the original #'s matching 318, so be it.

My biggest thing that I always swore as a kid was if I was going to restore a car any modifications would have to fit both the below criteria;

1.) any modification must be easily un-done.
2.) any modification has to look fairly close to stock.

I love my small block, love the way it looks in my engine bay, with my planned modifications (all of which fit the above criteria) it should have around 330-350 HP and will have 10:1 compression, should run good and will preform good for me.

Cleaned up the jack base, gave it a paint job (primer, paint, clear)

Also got the scrap doors of it, all my panels are going to be bodyworked pretty soon, by March the car should be starting to come back together with bodyworked-primed-jammed panels ready to go on it. ordered my $650 in brake parts today from the multiple sources I had to go through to get them, atleast my Entire brake system will be brandnew.

one done

One to go.

The Second door felt heavier than the first, this is a result of working alone and lugging these big old suckers around. Need to gut the doors I took off and then there ready for scrap.

I've noticed that I'm the only person here who does not/has not given their car a name. Therefore, I'm open to suggestions.

Ok here is a name for you hear me out. Hutch, where did you come up with that name you ask? You mentioned that you just call it Newport. One of the founding settlements in Newport RI was started by Anne Hutchenson. I had a buddy with the same last name and we all called him Hutch.

So there you have it you are still calling him something in reference to Newport and I personally think Hutch sounds like a good car name.

Make mine a DODGE

Would love a '62-'64 Dodge D100, finding one, finding parts, thats the problem.

Nick

Not really, theres still plenty of the 61-71 sweptsides out there in nice shape. And a lot less expensive then a ,(gulp), chevvvy, and a lot classer too. AND.... They don't have chevy engines...! Parts are not that tough to locate either.

Just nose around this site for awile.... you'll be supprised what turns up.
