W/o looking it's not off the charts but torque and especialy longevity probably is pretty decent.. does it have the water flowing through the heads?

The specs varied from MH manufacturer to manufacturer but 325 hp should be close enough.
Are you sure it's a 440?? The majority of 71 MH's had the 413 with a 1970 build code.

I have heard that before Stan and am puzzled. Why would they continue to make the 413 for a Motor home and yet discontinue them 5 years before for the automobile? Why not just make the 440 ?

Ma Mopar has ALWAYS done things that leaves people scratchin their heads. Why stop making a big block at all? Ford and chevy guys could get big blocks for 30+ years after the last Chrysler BB rolled off the assy line. Sometimes I think the lack of vision at that company has cost them a lot of $$$ over the years.

There's your answer, Dave.
Why is my very early '76 New Yorker actually a very late'75 Imperial?
Why did 1981 MH 440's still have 1978 casting dates.

I would wager that the compression was a chunk lower than the normal 440 of '71.

Except for a billet dragster head all heads should have water flowing through them.... Well, at least on an assembled running engine with water/coolant in it... :poke:

... My grandfather had one, likely '70-'72 and Dad said it had a 413, but I was really little when it was still around, and never saw the engine to know if it was the truck version, with the odd smallblock style heads on it.

I expect all of the post '66 413s would be the truck engine with the odd looking heads.

As some of you know I have a boat that had a POS GM 350 in it, and I am building some of my own parts to put a Chrysler 360 in it.

In my searching for options, I was looking for marine (with water jacket) center dump exhaust manifolds for a bigblock Chrysler thinking 440 with a Bravo outdrive at the time.

When I found them I noticed the ports were evenly spaced... WTF They were Ford 460 manifolds that had Chrysler cast into them. Again WTF... Chrysler Marine had to use a Ford 460 to fill the void left when Chrysler stopped producing the 440.

In further research I found that Chrysler was in financial trouble in the late '70s and Government pricks conditioned a loan that made Chrysler drop the bigblock due to "efficiency" judged by some pencil pushing candy-asses that wouldn't be able to tell the difference from a carburetor to a master cylinder.

In reality the Chrysler 440 was much more efficient than the 460 or the 454, but GM and Ford didn't need money at a bad time. The 2-2.5 ton straight trucks were no longer built after '78, and likely part of the same restrictions.

Same thing... Chrysler was not able to produce the bigblock after '78.

Thankfully they cast what they could before their time ran out.

I don't think that was a "ZING" actually Stan .. just a statement or clarification. Of course I meant did the water pump, pump water directly into the heads

Yeah, Stan was right, it was a poke. I am a certified smart-***.

I figured that you were talking about the truck engine.
