What is the largest motor one could order in a Fury in 1972? I was reading a few articles on engine options for that year, and it looks like you could still get a 440. Does anyone know if that is true. I sure would like to see a two door version of the Fury (Gran Sport) with some performance options. I always thought that the 72' Fury split grill looked cool, especially with the hide away headlights. I have only seen 400 motors.

Thanx in advance..

Ive seen one 440 2 door fury on ebay the motor was factory been wanting one too but will have to settle with my 360 4 door

Back when I was younger (ha, ha,) I remember that this guy had a 72' Fury at a couple of car shows, the car had a 440, 6bbl in it. It was still very cool and pretty low key. I'll try to find a photo of it. I was always wondering if he built it from a 440 car...

The largest engine available in the 72 Fury was the Hi Perf "U code" 440 4bbl. As a general rule, the 440 was available in C bodies until 1978. There were some restrictions for California/ High Altitude regions (Denver etc.) as the 70's plodded along.

He must of sold all of them....haven't heard from him in awhile. LOL!!!

Thanx Mr. C,

I take it if it was a Hi-Po 440 for 72' it would have the appropriate options to support the motor, 8.75 rear, larger breaks, etc. Was there a specific model like at GT for the year or the Gran Fury or whatever they called it was it. Any 4 spds...I've only seen a 69' Fury 2, 3spd.

Thnx

If anyone one has any pictures I would like to see. I'm going to post the 72' with the six pack.

Thanx

yes my buddy. my grand father had a 72 fury 3 with the 440 under the hood and that was a 2 door.

I believe the out-put on that engine was around 210 horses. I have a 72 fury with the 400. A very high percentage of those cars were 318's. very dependable engines but not a lot power.
