A friend of mine acquired this 71 Dart GT. Not many Dart GT’s made in 71 and this car was a 318 2 barrel, triple black, & 3 speed manual on the column (3 on the tree) so we think this car is quite rare (not valuable just rare). He’s a big Mopar guy with a decent collection of cool MOPARS. Not looking to sell, just wants to find out more about it. If someone can accurately break this down for us please. Here’s some pics

For early-Seventies cars, the online decoders are not so bad. How I did it:

1) google for a mopar fender tag decoder;
2) pick the first result (<Mopar Fender Tag Decoder>)
3) enter the codes (that's the tedious part)
4) pack it all in a post.

I'm no specialist on Darts, so it might need checking. Of course, the term "Date Built" in the result below is way off.

LH23
L = Dodge Dart / Demon
H = High
23 = 2 Door Hardtop

G1R
G = 318 230HP 1-2BBL 8 CYL
1 = 1971
R = Windsor, ONT, CAN

261433 = Sequence Number '261433'

E44 = 318-2 Barrel

D14 = 3-Speed Manual Column Shift

TX9 = Paint Code: Black / Black Velvet

H6XW = Trim Grade/Style/Color:
H = High
6 = Vinyl Bucket Seats
X = Black
W = ???

TX9 = Upper Door Frame: Black / Black Velvet

505 = Date Built: 5 / 05 / 1971

025168 = Order Number: 025168

V1X = Roof Type OR Color: Full Vinyl Top - Black

U = Built to Specifications for USA Order

A65 = Dart GT Package

C55 = Bucket Seats

J31 = Single Horn

M21 = Roof Drip Rail Moldings

M25 = Wide Sill Molding

M43 = Grill Surround Molding

R11 = Music Master Radio AM

END = End of Codes

That's a cool Dart. Even though it's a 318 with a 3 on the tree which may not be the most desirable, it is quite rare. My Galen book lists only 96 318 column shift cars made.

Awesome. That’s what I’m looking for. Now how many of those were GT’s & how many of those were black

Build date is fine for a 71. Production ended in July.

The date may be within range, but it's not the frigin' "Build date". It's the Scheduled Production Date. There can be worlds apart between scheduling a build and actually building it. @69CoronetRT dedicated many posts to that subject.

I know, either way if what you call it, the dates good. Missed your word "term" the first time I read it.

W meaning white ?

XW interiors generally meant white seats and door panels along with black carpets, dash pad, headliner, and seat belts.
It seems like many of them were changed to all black over the years based on one I owned and several that I’ve seen online.

I saw a B5 blue 70 Swinger for sale in CA about 10 years ago that was special ordered with just two options, the 318 engine and A/C so it was a column shift manual as well. It was in nice shape, all stock and being sold by its original owner IIRC

Have to ask, are you plans to keep the t/a motor in the dart?

sounds like it's a blast!
I was mostly curious if the motor belonged in a t/a or aar.
