Several years ago, I saw an AirGrabber hood scoop, air box, and all of the controls for it (yes, it was functional!) on a '71 Sport Fury GT at a car show in Dallas several years back. It looked 100% factory! It is the only one I've ever seen on any C-body car, period.

Was this a very successfully-executed home or shop-built job, or was this a factory option in 1971 on a Sport Fury GT or an S23 (this was a GT)??? I could never locate the owner, and I never bothered to take a picture, in the excitement of seeing the hood. Every '69 - '71 Fury I've ever seen, regardless of engine, has the dual-bulge hood on it. This was that AND the AirGrabber in one hood!

What say you guys???

I am big into 1970 fury's and i haven't ever heard of it and i haven't ever read of this being an option, but hey Chrysler would commission manufacturers to make prototypes some times on cars and then opt to not carry it.

Ill say with almost certainty that it was a post deliver fab. Bet it looked nice.

Guy down here has an 81 Imp with a Shaker intake and hood. Even looking at the hood witha magnifying glass you would swear it was factory.

I did some checking in a '69 - '71 option book that GG has. It shows no available AirGrabber for the Fury. I found a '71 Plymouth Fury dealer brochure online that also did not show or list one. I kinda figured that it was not an option, but a very well-put-together factory-looking piece. Had to ask the question to you guys. I'd love to find this car again! I do remember the car was T5 Bronze Metallic with a black interior, 15" chrome road Wheels, and a blackout hood that looked amazing. The temptation to build a phantom (one-of-none) is high! If I could find a sweet Fury III or Sport Fury to build like this one, I'd really consider it. Black, black vinyl top & matte black stripes, black interior, and Road Wheels; or alternately T5 Bronze Metallic with no vinyl top and either a bronze or black interior.

Sourcing all of the required AirGrabber bits would probably cost more than a suitable car!

Hell, if a bunch of kids on a Ford commercial can ask Santa for various new Fords, I can ask for a '70 or '71 Sport Fury GT, can't I?

318 engine auto. trans in floor bucket seats, ( only 1579 were built ) custom hood, has rust in trunk floor, also needs rear frame rails,(parts car available) parts car has good frame rails, and floor pans.$old to Mark Taran of New York

I suspect that the hood scoop was crafted by a good quality auto body person. My friend purchased a few years ago a 1972 Fury ex-squad replica. The previous owner grafted 1970 Fury power bulges (hood). It looked really neat and was a high quality job.

At this time I am planning to graft the power bulge hood of a 1970 Sport fury onto my 1969 Sport Fury I now just need another 1970 hood. I also have the chrome surrounds for the bulge that are actually off of a coronet side scoops.

The 70 came stock with the "bulge" hood, the 69 and 71 did not. No air grabber option what so ever on the 69-71 Fury........

I wish I had pics of the Fury, because the hood on that was a thing of beauty. Anyone in north or central TX know where this car is now???

I was at a show in Eastern WA state years ago, and a guy had a 71 340 Duster with the dual scoop hood. They had fabbed up a complete 69 B-body Airgrabber set-up onto the underside of the hood. Using the factory scoops for air intake. It was so well done it looked like a factory installation.

This was before Digital cameras. I might have snapped a photo of it....no idea where that might be now.

The point is, it takes a lot more than cutting a hole in a hood (right through the stiffening ribs), pop riveting a replica onto it, and filling the gaps with Bondo.
