IMHO, a good forum is like a group of guys sitting around someone's garage talking and telling stories about cars and life. The conversations should wander around, going off on some tangents and maybe coming back around to the original subject. There should be someone showing up with a broken car once in a while and asking "What do you think I should do?" and then someone else shows up saying "Look what I just bought". Over in the corner, one guy is showing some others how he rebuilt the engine.
It goes on and on.... New guys show up and if they don't ***** about the cigar smoke, they get accepted into the group as a regular. Some guys never fit in, and they don't even try to. Some of the regulars disappear from time to time... some come back, some move on to new interests.
A good car forum should also accept that there is another world out there besides cars, but it should also remember that cars are the reason the forum exists in the first place.
Myself, I like a good laugh, so jokes and funny pics are always a good thing... Scantily clad women are fun too, but there are limits. Politics and religion really needs to be kept to a minimum. Many of us have strong feelings about those subjects and while I appreciate intelligent view points and discussion, I don't think it does anything to bring about camaraderie here. I do want to hear about news that will affect if I can drive car next year, so yea, there will be discussion about that... and if the Moonies start worshiping a '70 Chrysler 300, I do want to know...
It's been a tough winter. The cold has kept me out of the garage more than I care to admit, but I've done a few things here and there. I didn't get as much done of the 300 as I have wanted to... The Barracuda turned out to be more of a project than I thought and I've focused on that this winter. The 300 is ready to roll though... New tunes for the radio... The small exhaust leak is still there, but worst case, I'll farm that out so it doesn't drag on.
