It could go to 30k+ if someone wants THAT car, or a pissing match commences. Its not like a car of this caliber presents very often.

Bob, I've heard so many different stories over the years I have no idea what to believe. Are they Y bodies? And if so which years?

I never understood the controversy. It's pretty clear that some folks got really confused over car line VIN designations and Corporate body line designations.

A Charger has the X designation for car line, yet nobody disputes that it is a B body. It's that simple.

So for Imperials, they are either D body (full frame cars to 66) or C bodies (67-75). I won't comment on the 80's and 90's stuff because I have less knowledge on that era.

In my opinion, the fascination over this car is three-fold. It is presented as a get in and drive it kind of car where everything works, even the a/c - a real draw especially for overseas buyers who cherish not having to spend a fortune to get them running a continent away where parts and know-how are not so available; second, the paint is mostly original and the car has obviously been indoors and out of the elements its whole existence given its remarkable body and interior; and third, it is perhaps the most heavily optioned example 2 door Imperial I have ever seen - with sunroof (extremely rare on an Imperial for some reason, but seemingly not so rare on a New Yorker or 300 - I have personally seen only one sunroof 2 door Imperial ever in the flesh (and I now own it but it is not in the condition of this example)) and this one has the cassette player on the tunnel and left & right power bucket seats. I believe this example will go to Europe and it will go for some $30K. You won't find another one like this one anytime soon. I would love to see an original window sticker on it.

The owner joined and had a few posts last week but I don't think he's been back or at least not posting. I wonder what he paid.

No Imp's were C's....even the 74 & 75 Imp is a Y Body.

Matter of fact....76-78 NYB's have Y-Body stamped parts on them. I mentioned this in a couple of different threads. My 78 NYB hood has a "Y" stamped in the front lip. My 78 Newport has a "C" stamped in the front lip of the hood. From a distance both hoods look the same. Parked next to each other you can see the difference in the hoods. The center hump (seam) in the hood rises quite a bit higher. If you put a NYB hood on a Newport the hood would be to high and wouldn't match up with the height of the header. The other way around putting a Newport hood on a NYB and the hood would be sunk down too far on the NYB.

This is the problem I've been hearing for 20 years on the net and around the hobby....

10 percent of the selling price

When I ended up getting mine, I saw local ad for a 71 Imperial coupe and there was only one photo of the car. This was about 10 years ago and it was listed with 79K miles on it. At the time, I was only half-hearted about going to look at it because I thought I might likely find a lower mileage one that was in better condition and I thought the colors were a little unusual (B3 blue exterior with a gold leather bucket seat interior and white top). But at the time, I had nothing better to do so I went and took a look at it. When I got there, I couldn't believe it actually had a sunroof, something that was not at all evident in the Craigslist ad given the angle of the photo. The car had not run for a couple years and was sitting outside for almost 2 years after the owner passed away and the kids didn't care much about it at all - they just wanted to get the "hulk" out of there. I gave them the asking price of $2500 and had it picked up that day. The owner was apparently a Union Oil executive based on some parking pass info that was in the glove box. I was figuring he ordered those colors because he might have gone to UCLA since their colors are blue and gold. I went there too, so I will likely keep those colors and go ahead and restore the car. Carsten would argue, however, that it is a really good daily driver just the way it is now, so why not just drive it! But I certainly need to get the sunroof working again. It has no rust at all. These cars drive like nothing else.

And that is why when these picture collectors ***** that there is only one photo I defend the ad. Everyone would like to see more but the guy who is really interested is going to call and/or have a look.

I see your point, and agree to a degree. But I think you are forgetting us overseas. We usually don't have the option of jumping into a car a go see it. We have to judge & trust by the photos alone.

One photo in the ad is fine. After a phone call and a discussion they should send you fifty photos.

Was the radio antenna located somewere else then normal ?
Don,t see one.......

Guess it's just screwed off, barely traceable but I think there is a base for the antenna on the right front Fender.
