Mmm I dunno Dale...Red 300 White top TNT ... Sounds like your car. Looks like it has good old Canadian undercoating slathered pretty good all around. It's across the country from me but someone should be close to take a look. Then again no AC :( and he is asking too much $7500-$8500 USD car IMO.

These two pictures tell the story.

It's overpriced if you ask me. I would either fix your '69 or find another TNT car.

I think I'd rather have this Convert Red w/ white top and interior if the frame and underside is not rotted and just surface stuff and it's an actual TNT.

Seems like a pretty nice survivorish car if there are not hidden problems

For that amount of coin, the owner should have had the car out of the garage and on a lift. No missing pieces, no wrench laying on the dash, dipstick in the trans, trunk mat out. In fact, I'd expect a video much like the ones I've shot that show windows work, seats, etc.

The front fenders have had work, the rocker trim doesn't fit as it should. Your inspector isn't much of a detective and apparently hasn't heard of am invention called the "LED worklight". Hope you didn't pay very much for that.

All of this negativity aside, this car checks all your boxes and they don't grow on trees. None of what I see scares me enough to condemn the car, but I'd definitely need to see it on a lift, and the price is already too high. $10k US, not a dime more.

I think the car is going to need some work and to be sorted out from those pics.

Nothing jumps out as being a deal breaker but I wouldn't want to pay the asking price either.

If the car was in London it would be worth a look but it's about 6 hours from me.

Next time I think I would be better just to keep everything on one thread instead of starting a new one. I confuse easily.

Dave

thank you, sir. got an inspection, sorry, I began another thread, i think my buddy fixed it for me (thanks) and, yeah, most people are telling me what little pohtos I got (would you hire that inspector again?) scares them pretty bad for what could be lurking beneath. and by the way, he's firm at just under 14K US. So, I assume, on that note, it's a definite no, huh? thanks for your thoughts.
Dale

lotta times you can spot a Ontario car out west by the rust on it...least that was the standard for the older vehicles...lotta salt used in Ontario
need more pics to make a justified opinion...didn't look to bad underneath and spots with rust are basic areas you would find a little rust anyway on a unrestored or ill kept car

a little dialogue with the owner to sum up the situation better. I also have his phone number.

hi, thanks, can't really call due to limitations on phone. So, you are not sure if it came with the TNT 440 from the factory?
also, is the price Canadian or American dollars?
Thanks.
Dale

Since he originally quoted you Canadian $, his low price of 14K USD is an increase in price. He probably wanted 14K CAD when he placed the ad. You probably got him thinking by asking which it was, and the wheels started turning about extra profit.

I think this makes a lot of sense

well actually, he was clear from teh beginning, but he's exchange rate was always higher than what i used, which is exactly what you used. maybe another reason to "leave it north of the border" (?)

thanks, but sounds like it'd be a pretty big gamble, since this is all i got from teh inspector. also, do would you pay 14K US for it?

thanks, Carmine, excellent points. yeah, i was hopiong a bit more preparation for the inspection...

Having been used to looking at northeastern cars, I'd say most of them show a pretty decent car. The wheelwell trim looks very good, as does the wheelwell lip. The shots of the rear underside show a spot on the pinch weld that could stand a better look, but it also shows nice trunk floor extensions.

The front stub frame would also need a look from someone knowledgeable as the pics don't show it well.

So for a northeastern car, specifically an Ontario car, it look pretty good at first blush and worth another look if you were in the area.

But... here in the northeast, we try to buy from the south and west when possible.... Then the rust issues are minimal.

IMHO, It might be best to set your sights farther south...

I'm the last one to talk to about values of C bodies. I just don't have the experience many others do.

I will say however I would pay a premium for a car that ticked all or nearly all of my boxes, condition being one, and a big one, if I had a good grip on the overall market and availability of the car I was looking for.

thanks, can you be more specific regarding these two photos, for this novice?

first one with drip edge is lowest point on car..vunerble to pretty well everything and is generaly a thin piece of steel...on most older and some newer cars is common to see this area worn and rusted...most folks are inclined not to spend to much time washing cleaning these areas due to location thus the rust

Frame pic looked not to bad surprisingly for a Ontario car so would assume cars undercarriage isn't to bad and possibly just surface rust for most part....heavier layers of rust showing spell trouble and or issues

just a few clues to go on to start....accumulation of clues will give you cars condition...milage..engine condition ect ect...in rare circumstances its just a matter of blowin of the dust and a wash..change fluids do basics and go.....others you put foot through front floorboard when you realize brakes don't work....

I just don't see all the deep rust you guys are seeing. No AC is a non starter for me, and if it's going to live in North Carolina, that might be a concern. As for value, any C in this condition is worth 10k all day every day, hidden details and all, anything over that the question is how bad do you want it?
