My '01 Passat is the same case. When I changed the timing belt I changed the water pump too, on the Passat you have to remove the whole front of the car before you start.

Yeah ill be putting a new timing chain, tensioners and oil pump in as well as the water pump so i don't have to open this thing up again.

my neighbor is into the star wars thing too, he even takes figures to work sometimes and play acts with them. He'll do that until he gets fired, them he'll get some quack doc to say he's nuts and he'll be on relief. And of course he can't get a woman..........gee, i wonder why?

Ok i got the water pump out and dammit the cams moved when i took the chain off, grrr, I was hoping i could get away without have to reset em. So 8 hours to get the pump out IF you have the right tools. Reassembly should be faster once i get the kit.

Yes, Its the law, you are not allowed to pump it yourself. I make sure I pump it myself or I leave that station, never to return.
