The rack and pinion on my 90 Bonneville **** out so I've been having to drive my 66 Polara. The temps here have been the negatives but with it plugged in the car starts right up. With the below zero temps my blower motor has been making a squealing noise until the car gets up to temp and has taken about 5 minutes to kick on after starting the car. Is it normal on these? Just hoping it's cause of the cold since replacing the blower looks like a headache according to the FSM. When the temp is about 5F or above it kicks on right away with no noise.

The bushing the blower shaft spins in is a little "dry" for lube. After it warms up a bit, then the lube that's there moves around and it quietens down and works. IF you can find a good cross-section drawing of the motor, you might be able to place a carefully drilled hole to lube that bushing. Then plug it up and see how that does. End result, though, is that the motor will need to be changed. At some point in time, that's probably where you're going to end up.

Just some thoughts,

Does anyone know if it can be replaced without taking the heater box out?

Gets replaced via the engine bay

I thought it was on the firewall, passenger side, in the engine compartment...?

Right here

You're right, looks like the heater box has to come out
