Posted on NHRA'S site. Bob passed Dec 17th after a long illness. A little story I'd like to share. Back about 87 or 88 I was at Rockingham Dragway. Standing well down past the finish line watching the cars go past. It was qualifying day. Bob made his run & as he came by I waved at him. He smiled big & waved back. So later that day after qualifying was over I went over to his pit hoping to talk to him. His crew was busy putting things away & Bob was sitting on a tire surrounded by kids signing autographs with a big smile on his face. I will never forget that
I had a lot of respect for him because the NHRA screwed with him just like they did with the MOPAR racers & he soildered on. He got so mad that he built a smallblock Chevy Monza & brought it to the 76 US Nationals. He failed to qualify with it & sold it to John Lingenfelter & went back to his trusty Cleveland Mustang II He said he had hundreds of hours in those Chevy heads
