Can't stop the trans leak

I remember when you budgeted eighty grand for the Imp......
That has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Fredo should pony up the 20 bucks. Would you feel better if I gave it to him?

How many here have stripped a thread in the tranny because the case is aluminum?
Don't everybody raise their hand at once.

The 68 Monaco has more than one stripped pan bolt & one bolt has even been replaced with a larger bolt that is also stripped. Previous owner must have been an idiot ( ;) just kidding, Bob). I have a brand new rebuild sitting on the floor so I'll swap em this spring.

That would really be stupid. Send it to me.

Might as well get paid for it...

Wow everyone is afaid of helicoils or what must be the drill

I was just thinking that myself.

I haven't stripped any myself, but I've repaired a few that previous owners stripped out. I even had one trans where the bolt hole was stripped out and because that hole went through the case, it had a nut on a longer bolt holding things together. Another had stripped holes for the valve body bolts.

Helicoils are a perfectly good repair. In fact, when I worked for a defense contractor, all of their aluminum components went out the door with helicoils installed in their mounting holes. Properly installed, they are a lot stronger than the threads in aluminum, especially in cast aluminum.

about the pan leak, it may not be the pan there is a hole in the rear of the case for the shaft for the reverse band lever. a o-ring seals the shaft to the case. you can see the shaft between tail housing and main case. when it leaks it runs down onto pan rail. looks like the pan is leaking. good luck

If there is lots of corrosion then I will hit it with heat first. The as it's cooling hit it with PB Blaster. Then try and give it a little nudge...see how it goes. If still not coming loose repeat previous procedure.
