Carlisle 2020 Official Thread

Damn I hope you're correct.
New York Gov just posted a graphic showing the curve in cases not leveling until June or July. For me that is too close a timeframe to be in big groups of people.. I think the Carlisle season will be toast

Kind of leaning that way also. That show for me I really look forward to all year also. Really on the fence to prep to vend there this year.

I have a folder full of modeling on this virus that is so far off it's scary. Modeling that made assumptions for quarantine and distancing. The best thing you can do to protect yourself is lose weight, get sunlight and exercise. Right now in NC if you're under 50, with a pre-existing condition, have tested positive for the virus, you have a .0009% chance of dying. Co-morbidites are the issue that people aren't talking about. People should take the summer, when this virus will fall off a cliff and get themselves in better shape. The virus itself is going to hurt those who are already sick, healthy populations aren't being impacted.

The virus is very deadly for smokers and people who vape since they already have compromised lungs.

I was planning on going to Carlisle on Saturday only this year. Since I'm only 92 miles from Carlisle I will probably still go if the show is a go and do a drive through on the showfield and wave at everybody or flash my lights and horn. Lol

The Carlisle business community and 50 mile radius is really hurting with the Spring Show rescheduled to the end of May.

Huh? Are you an infectious disease professional?

One of my companies is a medical company. There are lots of models out there being used by officials to make decisions that are off by a significant amount. It's a complex problem. 70-80% of the deaths are happening to those over 65 with significant co-morbidities. My advice to anyone is to use this summer to prioritize your health. Stay active, lose weight and get sun light. We'll be dealing with a variation of this virus in the fall/winter. Being healthy is the best way for this not to be a concern.

Not that everyone shouldn't try to be as healthy as they can to fight off every medical issue, including this virus but your statements about death rates are meaningless. Especially on this forum, where many members are older and have existing medical conditions completely out of their control. The production of a vaccine and staying away from fools who don't take it serious is the best way for this to not be a concern. If an 18, 30, 40 year old healthy person gets it and spreads it to me, I will likely die. I'm not willing to die based on your opinion....thanks.

The statements about death rates aren't meaningless and here is why.

Right now instead of isolation, you need the healthiest people at work and mingling. While they will catch the virus, the likelihood of them even being symptomatic is low. Those that show symptoms, will not need hospitalization. You need this population to contract and get over the virus so when restrictions are rolled back, which they will slowly be starting at the end of the month, that population is now not risking the vulnerable population. The vulnerable populations will still need to take extra measures to be safe and everyone should still be practicing social distancing. If you don't allow the healthy to contract and get over the virus, they're simply going to get it and pass it in the coming months as we are forced to go back to work. It's the entire reason the furlough program was created. To allow those workers that need to stay isolated, stay, while healthy workers and those that don't interact with vulnerable populations, work.

Nobody is saying that you should interact with those people, if you're part of the vulnerable population. Your working assumption if you have a co-morbidity, should be that everyone has it and to use all the proper safety measures. This is a complex problem that will not be solved by simply isolating the population.

That was what they tried at first in the UK, just isolating high risk individuals. But people that were caring for these high risk individuals were getting corona and didn't know because they were asymptomatic, so they were spreading it to the high risk population. Now they risk having their medical facilities overloaded, causing people to die from lack of resources. The proposal to only isolate the vulnerable would be workable if either 1) you weren't contagious unless you were showing symptoms so easy to identify as a carrier, 2) there was a vaccine that caretakers could take, or 3) there was a test that was readily available, accurate and quick enough that someone could take it every morning before starting work.

Saw this on Facebook the other day, Carlisle is going to do a Rapid Transit System display this year! (that is if the virus does not affect this). I have been in contact with Mr. Wheeler who owns the beautiful 1970 B7 Blue 6-barrel Sport Fury GT and he told me that Mr. Ed has been in contact with him about a display. Anyone else interested?

My wife went back to work a couple of days a week. Store is still closed, but they got the okay to ship via common carrier to customers. Old people are coming up to and shaking the doors trying to get in all day she said. They are bored already before the shutdown now they have no where to go so they drive around looking for places to hang out, constantly in the way. The not old people that are out driving slow I believe are all the people with suspended licences, did not really notice them before in rush hour traffic , but they stand out now like a sore thumb.
Get off the road or move your ***, you are screwing up the only good thing about this virus, no traffic.
