Carlisle 2020 Official Thread

FWIW, Western PA is opening up we should be able to see if cases increase or decrease in the next 30 days
Oh it will increase, people are stupid and no clue. I pulled my truck into the wide spot by my favorite beer distributor, mom & pop grocery store right next door. Talked to the wife for a short list of stuff, turns out they where just putting out a whole bakers rack of fresh ground beef among other stuff. So I stand back and wait as this stupid woman picks up and puts back down over 50% of the packages, putting them right up to her face and then putting back. She tells me go ahead, " no until you move and I'm keeping track of the ones you breathed on and touched" well she gets offended and he hubby decides to now step in, too late DH you should have read the packages for her.
I'm not that paranoid, but common respect would be, bring your glasses and don't touch unless your buying.
I can only imagine what strains of a mutated virus I will face, coming over from NYC, NJ, and Philly. Lots of imported versions over that way.

I agree with Will. I am passing on the show as well. I have only missed one from the time it started . It will be hard because I love it but feel the risk is too high I am 62 and very healthy .Never been in the hospital for anything. Never broke a bone or had a disease of any kind until this past February when out of the blue I caught influenza typeA. Had it for 2 months and went to the hospital emergency room twice. I could not breath For the first time in my life I was truly scared I think I may have an idea what covid-19 feels like. I feel so sorry for the people that have had it and the ones who have passed from it This is a serious matter and I will wait until things get better and hopefully a vaccine is found. So for now I will enjoy summertime drives with my Newports and return to car shows next year. Everyone be well and be safe!

Are you sure it was Influenza A? Is there even a medical test for different flus?

There are countless people that have had this that if they got sick, wrote it off as a bad flu.

Yes I am sure. I was tested twice and came back positive twice. I also got my flew shot 5 months earlier . Obviously it didn't help much

I'm pretty cynical when it comes to medical professionals. I find they tend to reach for the low hanging fruit and stick with it to the bitter end.

I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that you could have had both at the same time but I guess to be fair nobody was doing much about C19 in February and if there was a test, it wasn't widely available.

If the C19 antibody test is available to you, that will tell the tale. If you have the antibody, that's what you were really sick with, the flu was just along for the ride.

Hey Will, have you called Carlisle events and asked them to put a hold on your spaces for 2021? I would thing that would be a reasonable request. FWIW, Western PA is opening up we should be able to see if cases increase or decrease in the next 30 days. That should be a good indicator as to how an open air venue would fair. I'm still planning on coming, but will make a final decision that week for sure.

If the show is not held then my paid spaces should roll over to 2021. Carlisle keeps postponing the shows because if they cancel they will have to refund advance payments. I have first refusal rights to my spaces up to a certain date every year. I just pay next years space rent before I leave the fairgrounds at the end of a event. It's worth a 5% discount. If I don't attend I forfeit my space payment and will just need to call for 2021 renewal.

I was in the Winn Dixie last week and a lady was standing by the banana's picking them up and putting them back down.. After watching a while I said... Lady, you missed a couple over there.
Come on.... If a banana is green, buy it. if it's brown leave it there, no need to touch banana's.
No banana's for me that day.

The consumption is on the inside.

If you are afraid of touching something, anything for the sake of illness then lock yourself up never to see the light of day unless you are in a sterilized bubble.
You NEED to touch and expose these things to keep your immune system strong.

seriously though, if someone doesn't pick up all three spaces, and only wants two , or if two other folks want to pick up single spaces I'd be into one of the spaces. No need to forfeit them!

It's a long drive and expensive weekend if the turn out isnt like last year...I'm not out yet but this really sucks.

I agree with that, but even before the virus these FDB can't look without touching. "See with your eyes not your fingers" as my dad always said. The meat I mentioned was all laid out no stacked ground up from the same cows, only thing to see is weight.

the 1970 Dodge Charger registry was planning a special event for the 50th annual in Carlisle and cancelled it last night

I hope they let us know in the next 2 weeks. It's a massive undertaking for me to show up. This year was to be 6-7 race cars.
