Does the gas tank need to be dropped in order to remove the fuel level sensor in the tank? If so, are there any other maintenance items that should be done at the time? I imagine that the vent lines should be replaced - is there a recommended hose type?
Can the sensor be tested without dropping the tank? My gauge is only reading slightly above 1/2 full when the tank is filled.

thank you,
Todd

It comes out without dropping the tank. There are wrenches available or use a brass drift and hammer to remove the locking ring.

I like to use modern fuel injection hose, but it seems to me that someone commented about another type that is resistant to the evil ethanol.

The only check you can do with it in the car is to ground the wire and see if the gauge goes all the way to full.

Once out, you can check it to your hearts content.

Fuel injection hose, SAE specification 30R9, works, but Thermoid makes the conventional Nitrile based hose, SAE specification 30R6 and 30R7, that can handle ethanol bearing gasoline blends, including E85.

The following images show the Thermoid catalog listing for these hoses:

Hi Vaanth,
What vendor sells these hoses? Thanks, Ben

Hi Vaanth,

I bought several spools of it a few years ago from eBay seller "RDCOBRA91 WHOLESALE". I just checked and they don't list it now, although they have some 1/2" heater hose. However, it appears their feedback has suffered since I bought from them, but my transaction was fine.

Grainger carries some. Amazon shows spools of it. Other eBay sellers list it too. There seem to be a lot of industrial and commercial distributors, but I have not dealt with any of those. It looks like you might be able to buy direct from Thermoid, but you have to request access to their "Customer Portal".
