Checking out a 66 300

Just for your reference; I bought a 67 300 'vert about 11 years ago. I REALLY wanted an old Mopar from this period and I responded to an add from someone in the Chrysler 300 club. I went to see the car and it made a good impression. It had been repainted, bumpers rechromed and had a new convertible top. Rust was fairly minimal as the car had been garaged.....I took a short test drive around neighborhood roads and I bought the car. I realized I paid TOO much ($16K) but I wanted it bad...What I was about to find out was that the car was in poor mechanical shape.

Driving slowly thru neighborhoods was not enough of a test. I should have gotten it out on the highway. I had to drive about 40 miles on interstates to get the car home.....It was terrible above 50 mph! The engine was also making a noise. If I had test driven the car on the hiway I probably never would have bought it!

Anyway, as the years have gone by I've addressed all the engine, suspension and brake issues the car had....I'm very happy with it and don't feel like I spent too much money anymore. It still has some issues but it is a very reliable driver... I've driven it more than 45K miles since I bought it!

As promised here are some pics. If anyone want to decode the data plate feel free. It's remarkably clean and original and everything seems to work so far. So far other than bit of rust by the drivers rear wheel I can find no other rust. I'm going start cleaning the paint tomorrow. Maybe tonight.

Great looking car, I must ask what is the deal with the clothes pins in the fuel line. :)

Boy that is a clean looking car. I had virtually no rust on my car and yours looks even better. Judging from under the hood I bet you will find no rust surprises.

The clothes pins on the fuel line is an old myth that that it prevents vapor lock.
(Que 5 people that swear it works. Yah, right).

I absolutely love that car. Congrats!
All you need to clean the engine compartment is a feather duster.

Congrats on a beautiful car!

Gorgeous, I want it...

How many miles are on this gem?

Heck of a deal on a beautiful car. Looks like a good detailing, fluids, hoses, belts, etc will put you in the drivers seat.
Oh....... And the clothes pins on the gas line...... Works. A couple of friends and myself drove a 36 and 37 Ford flathead from NC to Michigan in July many years ago. All secondary roads and in 90+ degree heat. Anytime we hit a town and had to slow or stop both cars would vapor lock. I knew of the clothes pin claim and we got some, clipped them on and the result was no more stalling. They act as a heat sink, kind of like when the waitress brings your coffee with a spoon in it. It gets cool faster, (I hate that).
