Correct Distributor cap for 1970 440

You could really go either way and neither would be wrong…..
The people with the definitive answer are all Dead…..
Though you will get responses to your answer….here….. and elsewhere…..

The Black Cap started in 1960…….
They went to Beige / Tan in 1966 ish…..
They then returned to Black in 1970 ish….

So , depending on what factory / assembly line it rolled down during its being built stage , in 1970 ( late 1969 ) ,
He could have been Black — or — Beige / Tan…..
 
There is NO architectural or functional differences between the two caps, just the color. Usually, tan is considered to be OEM. Aluminum contacts, too.
 
Rule of thumb is 68 up USUALLY Alkaline (tan) Then a mix of both after 71. on the single point. DP Tan 68 and up Factory Had MADE IN USA on top.
