Went to pop the trunk yesterday and it got "stuck". Wouldn't open more than a foot or so. It looks like one of the torsion bars that holds the deck lid open popped out of place. Upon further inspection it seems like there may be a piece missing that I wasn't aware of; a roller. On the drivers side there is a "roller" that appears to be missing on the passenger side.

My FSM calls it a "roller" but the only thing I find on the internet are plastic rectangular shaped "sliders" like these: DMPS-7239 Mopar Trunk Trunk Slider A-body B-body C-body E-body - dantesparts.com

Does anyone know if this "roller" should be on both sides and if so where the heck one may be procured?

Interesting, they must have changed them for ‘69 into the square sliders. Even the rail on the hinge changed. Here is mine from 1970. I’ve had these pop off before. Yours look like metal. Search around the trunk with a magnet especially in the spaces near the quarter panel drop downs, you might find it. On a side note, if you have ever removed your hinges make sure you put them back on the side. It’s not mentioned anywhere, but there is a left and right. My sliders kept popping off until I swapped the hinges to side.

Thank you, @Samplingman. I haven't had them off but I'd bet they have been off before. I did a finger sweep for the roller between the fender and trunk floor. Will try searching with a magnet, that is a good idea. I have been trying to learn how to search the parts manual but haven't been able to find this part yet.

I wonder if the TS3-1963-1974 A/B/C part listed on Dante's (but not pictured) is correct for you, or square like what is shown. Might be worth a phone call to ask . . .

Dantes Parts replied immediately confirming it is a totally different part than what they are selling. Suggested it would need to be found used. I wonder if it is possible to convert to the style of hinges that use that plastic slider...

Before I do something drastic I will keep searching for the part or possible find something similar that could be made to fit.

I did some searching and all the hinges and sliders I found say they fit 1968-1973. Someone needs to post pics of their original 1968 trunk hinges to be sure. Any chance these hinges are from a different model /year?

So you have the hinges from a '67 on your '68 300? I wonder if it is an early build. You might want to swap the hinges with '69-'73 units to make it easier to find the parts. The hinges are all the same hard top or convertible. The torsion bars are unique to the convertible, FYI.

I think they are for '68. The pictures in that post are from a 1968 Polara Convertible. I am going to post a wanted add shortly after searching a bit more.

I FINALLY found the part number in the parts catalog. The reference number in the parts catalog is 23-19-178 from Illus. Page 23-72.

The part number is 2482 691 (Text Page 23-22)

None of this has helped me locate the part but at least I am figuring out how to use the darn parts catalog!

@Big_John - I JUST bought it! I actually followed one of your older posts on how to find and decipher the parts catalog which helped me find this on ebay. I am hopeful it is what it says as there was no picture.

As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge, it has helped me many many times

My 69 300 has square sliders and they're still available

I had the same problem many years ago on my 67 Monaco convertible. I have the same round roller. The roller popped off and I couldn’t open the truck very far. Eventually I opened it enough to get in and find the roller but the bars had popped off both sides and were a bit of work to get them back in place with the rollers.

The hood on my 67 Newport uses the round metal rollers on the torsion bars and both are totally shot so I am on the hunt as well. It's to bad no one makes a repo. However my trunk uses the square sliders. It seems you got whatever was in the parts bin on assembly day.

I had no problem getting repros. I'll find the receipt where I got them from

Both of my ‘67s have the big one piece steel rollers for the trunk and the smaller 3 piece rollers for the hood.

A guy with a lathe could knock a bunch out in no time. I sold my lathe a bunch of years ago and no access to one, so I'm out, but I'm sure you could find someone.

3D printing is probably the way to go. I don't have one, but there are many crafty people out there that would know what to do. I myself would experiment with making one out of a hardwood dowel perhaps? Even if it is temporary until one is found. Necessity is the Mother of invention.
