I know this is the wrong forum, but since i only post in here, I think it is appropriate.

Drove to texas on tuesday from WA state to pick up my new MADE IN AMERICA car lift. Hornswoggled a couple of buddies to tag-team drive the ~4000 miles there and back with me. As you may or may not know, there is only one manufacture who still makes their lifts in the US (Sad but true) Whip lifts of ft.worth Texas. Got back yesterday (friday about 6: p.m.) I should have it installed later today or so. Shipping was crazy expensive, and even though diesel is also expensive, i still saved money by going to get it.

I'm so jealous!

I'm hoping to add a high bay to my shop this year and plan on a lift.

Do you mind letting us know the cost?

Mind you this is the 11,000 lb capacity, extra wide, extra tall lift, which adds to the cost. It was ~$5,500-ish plus tax

GOOD FOR YOU!

Props for putting the effort in to buy American, You have inspired me as well. Thank you.

4000 mile round trip?
Let me guess, about $1050 for fuel??

Just curious here
What were some of the shipping quotes you received on that?

great tool my friend , its going to be the handiest tool in the shop . hope your head room is good enough . a friend has a 11k high lift , and raised his 37 chevy hotrod just to high once . it was about a three foot dent across the roof by the rear window . two full days to fix and repaint .

Diesel is like $5.69 a gallon around here. I'm surprised driving there was cheaper than shipping.
Thanks for the tip on how to buy American!

Shipping quotes were all around $2500, when i ordered the lift several months ago before fuel went nuts, and $2800 last week. I kept all the receipts and have about $1400 in diesel, averaging ~14 mpg.

As a side note, the besting shipping rate i got about 9 months ago for shipping a 4l80e to texas on U-ship was $2200, one way. that is after multiple quotes and several months in the site. I was able to use the trans rebuilders old dominion account and got it shipped for $600 EACH WAY. There is no such thing as free amazon prime shipping, somewhere, some way everybody pays the offset.

You guys should ship using Fastenal. They will ship from store to store pretty cheap. I just had a gen 1 dodge Hemi shipped from Wisconsin for about $100.

I think Fastenal would have a tough time loading that in a van.
Really, I doubt if they would accept it at all because of it's size.

As an aside, I averaged 20.88 MPG (actual) last week on a 400 mile round trip in my 56,000 mile 2015 Ram 3500 dually.
Deisel was $5.09/gal, deduct the 5% Discover card discount gets the cost down to $4.844/gal

Yes I was referring to the trans he had shipped not the lift. lol

Did you say Heim?? Do tell!! Whatcha gonna do with it?
No I said Hemi not Heim. lol

I'm going to build a tribute Rod in my dads name. He always had 30 31 Ford model A's so I'm going to build one he always wanted with a 270 Red Ram Hemi.

I did contact fastenal about the transmission, if i remember right, they couldnt because it was between 2 of their "zones" and not "within one zone"

The final numbers are: Total Miles 3957.4
Total Gallons 288.331
MPG 13.725
Fuel $ 1510.85

Fuel cost by location
Oakley Kansas @ 5.059
Dumas TX @ 5.099
WA State @5.499

Tow Vehicle 2017 Silverado high country duramax dually 4x4 with canopy completely stock with the exception of the dealer installed bed mounted auxillary tank.

Nice, I added one to my garage mainly for storage. I did get the sliding hydraulic jack also so oil changes brake jobs etc ate much easier now as well.

Fastenal cop out.
Shipped a transmission from Iowa to WA state several years ago w/no issues and I'm quite sure WA is not in the same "zone" as Iowa.
Only thing was, they made me palletize and completely crate the thing, PITA for sure.

That's funny because the only way to ship fastenal is to drop off and pick up at one of their stores.
