Doesn’t turn off when I turn the key to OFF position

So I just installed a new 130 amp one wire alternator and went to take the fury (1966) for a drive. When i pulled up to the gas station I turned the key to the left and the car remained running. I ended up inserting the key back in and leaving the key in the off position and after a couple minutes it shut off. Is this something simple like replacing the ignition tumbler and ignition swtch?

My first guess is that you need a new ignition switch.

Did you change wiring to go to the single wire alternator? My father who was a mechanic for 50 years always said check the last thing you changed when there is a new problem.

Your stock wiring will be unhappy when that alternator puts out 130 amps.

How did you wire this in, what did you change. Look there first. Doubt anything is wrong with the ign switch.

When you downgraded to the single wire alternator, chances are you are getting some sort of electrical back feed into the ignition system.
