So I just installed a new 130 amp one wire alternator and went to take the fury (1966) for a drive. When i pulled up to the gas station I turned the key to the left and the car remained running. I ended up inserting the key back in and leaving the key in the off position and after a couple minutes it shut off. Is this something simple like replacing the ignition tumbler and ignition swtch?

Your stock wiring will be unhappy when that alternator puts out 130 amps.

How did you wire this in, what did you change. Look there first. Doubt anything is wrong with the ign switch.

When you downgraded to the single wire alternator, chances are you are getting some sort of electrical back feed into the ignition system.

tried changing the ign switch, didnt work. Im thinking now Im getting feedback from the new alternator. The car will now shut off after about 2-5 min. Found this a Painless wire alternator diode for feedback. Should come in next week so ill install that next

- the red wire on alternator goes to the summit cut off
- black wire on alternator goes to firewall junction
***tried putting the diode on the black wire but the car wouldn't start , so i removed it

the big wire should run directly to the battery.
If the alternator output is connected to any wire that normally doesn't have power on it when the ignition is shut off, the power from the alternator will feed the ignition system, keeping the motor running. Our normal alternator's field (the regulator wiring) is shut down when the ignition is turned off, a single wire alt that doesn't have an exciter wire always puts out power if it's spinning, no matter what.
I hope this makes more sense.
