Dragging calipers on my '73 conversion

YES YES YES YES! Problem solved and it wasn't my fault. :)

I got to my shop this afternoon, first tried to tap the push rod in while the booster was still in the car, didn't move at all. Took it out got a bigger hammer tapped it 3 or 4 times. Previously it was 1" 3/16, now at 7/8" yes. One more tap for good measure, no change. Twisted adjustment nut to 1" reinstalled. It passed every test, including a pretty hard test drive.

Bring on the summer, I am ready.

Thanks everyone for being there for me through this whole experience. I would have never been able to do it without everyones input.:thankyou::thumbsup::thankyou:

Excellent! I'm very glad you stuck with it, and... Congratulations, you are now another one of the "go to" guys around here for working out brake issues. :)

It is funny you said that, I just told my cousin I think I could solve any problem on a c-body brake system now. Thanks for sticking with me, it really feels good when the problem is solved.

Mighty fine, Mike. Mighty fine!

Well apparently I was premature in my joy, as I wait for a tow. I am about 20 miles from home just out for a cruise. Both front discs got smoking hot. I could smell them and pulled over.

I am going to test the master, and have have about 1/4 of adjustment on he booster to play with.

Oh well I was having a nice drive. I have a steak waiting for me to grill at home. Dinner looks like it is going to be late tonight.

Sorry to hear that Mike...:(
If I were closer I'd be right there to help you cry in your beer:rolleyes:
And fix your car while we are at it!

Mike,
At this point I would jack up the front end, remove the tires, and plug away until I found it. When the calipers release you will be able to turn the rotor by hand. At this rate you will get on a first name basis with the tow driver.

I personally recommend that you back off the master cylinder and if the brakes release then you are in the right area for the cause of this issue
MC, booster, or the pedal assembly itself

I got home save and sound to a steak dinner. I will check things out tomorrow. The calipers released by the time the tow truck got there after an hour, the master was still pretty hot. When I got home drover her in to the garage and would roll freely.

First thing I will check is the push rod in the booster, if it is out again it will get shipped back to the re-builder.

BTY Last weeks long drive was 30 miles each way, no problems. Tonight's drive about 20 miles.

You're a funny guy Tom. In the service manual they list riding the brake as the first thing, in trouble shooting the problem. Solution, instruct customer how to drive with disc brakes. Didn't know riding the brakes with drum brakes was OK either. :)

Good call pulling over and towing. I'm glad you and Goldie are both safe.

By now, you know what to do with this, so I'll just wait for the update.
