Since I am about to embark on a similar journey to install disc brakes on my '66 300, I am also eager to see how this turns out. Thanks a lot Mike, for blazing the trail for us. . .

Mighty fine, Mike! Watching you go through all this pain has had me almost as frustrated as you. I've been concerned about that master cylinder push rod adjustment. From what I've heard from others, it seems to be something of a black art to get it adjusted correctly.

No real news but did talk to the guy who is actually going to go through the rebuild again. He got my booster on Friday, called today. I explained the dislodged push rod occurred twice and this is a first for him, he said he would call me when he finds the problem and will get right on it.
I am eager to hear the moment you do. Again - whether or not you sent it in to him initially, is no chance of him giving you another known good one in replacement and calling this a "core?" I would be strongly (and of course respectfully) leaning towards this as the next step.
Here is the low down on the booster. The push rod is kept in place by a keeper, this was slightly jacked, which would make sense since it had pushed out twice. He reset the keeper and reseated the push rod, if he tried really hard he could still get that push rod to come out. So he put in 2 keepers, with all his might he could not dislodge that push rod.
Time will tell, but I feel pretty good with his efforts and his solution.

If anyone gets a duel master rebuild I would request two keepers and I will get a measurement when I get it back, of the depth of the push rod so this can be compared before its installed to make sure it's properly seated.
I have two theories of what went wrong. The first simply the keepers are poorly made, Lord knows we have come across plenty of repops that are crap.
The second is it was never properly seated. If the booster recovers quicker then the master, then there is a period of time with no pressure on the push rod, so each time the brakes are apply the push rod starts to work its way out.

Worst case scenario is that Mike gives up & I buy Goldie for scrap price...

No I never see myself selling Goldie, even if someone offered me stupid money for her. This situation with the booster is aggravating but I am pretty good at looking at the big picture and she still puts a big smile on my face.
I wasn't referencing or thinking of the brake situation. I assume with the family connection and your obvious love of the car (no brainer with this beauty) is why you'll never sell.

I have to get the sill plates from you yet..
Well not the best day. I got my booster back, installed in record time and then looked at the push rod. It wasn't even seated. I turned the adjustment the whole way in. When installed it made contact with the master at about an 1/8". Test drove overheated the brakes.
Decided to install the old unmached to master, single booster. When I removed the dual booster I noticed the push rod was now seated. What the hell. I already had it completely off went ahead and installed the single.
Not really happy with the single but needed gas and drove into town. Started back up after the fill up and started missing really bad. Pulled over was getting gas, definitely some ignition issue now.
Currently sitting under a shade tree waiting for a tow. Not how I planned to spend my afternoon.

I have that electronic ignition sitting new in the box. Might be the time to install it now.
