Hi, I picked up an Ignitor I and a Flamethrower coil kit for my 68 New Yorker, 440ci. I was under the impression that my 440 was a dual point distributor. I was wrong when it came down to installation, it's single! Also, I've heard about different distributors in Mopars, Presolite and Chrysler. What's the difference and will the Ignitor work on either one or does it have to be specific? I believe when I ordered the kit, it is for a Presolite, I need to get this straightened out. I'm looking forward to having electronic ignition! Thanks your input! Chris

I don't know about the distributors. The Ignitor manual should detail, if it matters. You can find a manual on-line if needed. I understand that the original Ignitor requires that you keep the ballast resistor. Personally, I would only bother with the Ignitor II or III which are much better and lose the ballast. But before that, I would buy a new HEI distributor (~$60 ebay for RB engines), use an e-core coil, and open my plug gaps up.

What's the part number of the kit you bought? The dual points distributer s would have been standard on the HP engines. I just put the pertronics on my 67 Imp.

I'm pretty darn sure dual points in HP motors was model specific. E.G. GTX, etc...

Yes, model specific. My 440 is single and not a HP. The Ebay website rattled off abunch of engines including the 7.2 440ci. If I was a tad bit smarter, I would have check my distributor first!
