Engine hoist

I got my hoist today. Looks solid and worked great. Pulled the engine today. Pics of that are in my build thread.

I was willing to bet a few here would jump on the tits on my lockerdoor :D

But no... What a reticence! ;) Or bad eyes!

AH-HA, It would appear that the funky 'ole crank handle has disappeared too. Wherez that thumbz up Icon? Good Job!

Yeah the new ones don't have handles .. I've got an old one with a handle and no chains. I need to figure out an easy way to hook chains to it though

These bars won't fit the engine. I can't put the holding plate on in any position... What would you do?

1. The plate fits if I connect the upper bell housing bolts directly to the plate.

2. I could drill a new hole into the plate to bolt 1 of the bars into it.

3. my favourite. Can I use the lower two holes also? With bolts and nuts instead of the 3/8-16 "bell housing" bolts.

Yes you can use nuts and bolts on the lower holes. Give up on it being pretty or symmetrical, it just needs to hold your engine.

I just wish they made these things so you could get the pivot up to where the cam is, would make rotating easier.

I've had that handle swing around and crush my finger. Thought I was gonna lose it for a while. It was bad.

Thanks Stan, that's great! This was my next question, if it's safe to use the four lower boltholes, because it's the ONLY way my enginestand fits on the engine.

I wish it would be symmetrical centered to the cam, like I saw it in one of his videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/Myvintageiron7512) can't find the particular video)), but there is no way this would work with my enginestand.

But I still have to order nuts and bolts on ebay because the home store just have no grade 8 bolts, just grade 5... :BangHead:

I have been doing it this way for years (on small blocks) with no problems.
Grade 5 hardware should be no problem.

Cut a few pieced of wood to support the engine in the different positions.

Too late, I ordered the grade 8 bolts already. The lower holes are 7/16, instead of 3/8. I ordered these bigger ones as well. Gives me a better feeling to use the biggest, hardest bolts I can use!

But I will do this wood support as well!
