I got the float naturally hanging down (by gravity) is this correct? (see picture)

- I suspect this is the right orientation since when the gas fills up, it should naturally raise the float
- The part that makes me doubt, is the fuel line fitting is pointing down (highlighted in picture)

FYI i know i can hook it up and watch the gas gauge while moving it up and down to determine this but i dont have a battery and too lazy to go buy one right now.

Yes, it goes in as you are holding it.

But just as a self teaching moment, try putting it in the other way. It probably won't go in, but you'll see the pickup ends up at the top of the tank rather than the bottom. I'm not trying to be a wise *** (which I often am LOL), just showing how it can only work one way.

There are 2 tabs on the sender that go into these slots at the tank opening.

It can only go in one direction.

Like Big John says, I just went through that with my 68, it will only go in one way. I was concerned with the angle of the line also until I got it back under the car and it line right up with fuel line.

Nice. Yeah the fuel line thing is weird.

I watched this video earlier. I guess this guy just put it on the wrong way...lol

When I had my new tank and sending unit on my bench, I tried both ways and the float at bottom of tank was the only way it went in and felt right to me.
