GJS's 1967 Dodge Monaco 500: Beverly

Done and done. Next weekend is gonna RULE!!!! My favorite thing in the world, starting a chain reaction that explodes repeatedly but (hopefully) destroys nothing. Stay tuned, my friends!

Hey man, Are you available to chat for a minute?
I'm at GG now and messed up timing.. trying to work it with the fancy gun and i'm very lost!

If you can call and perhaps lend your expertise, my cell is 212-365-0652

Thanks!

Alex

It's close to 1000 miles to Chicago, I got NO gas, it's sunny and 75 degrees out and I broke my sunglasses. Sip it.

Alright, oil, filter, antifreeze gotten. Won't be affording plugs but that was really more of a "everything else is new, why not?" Thing. My plugs are good for now.
Now to sell some blood for a 5gal gas can and some low ethanol gas... stay tuned.

Welp, thought I'd tool by and get a few things taken care of. Get the fluids in and certify TDC... seems the radiator leaks. Didn't do that before. Def does now. Still gonna fire it off this weekend. I'll just run a hose through it while she's running then next week get her re cored. On closer examination of my rad cap, definitely need a new one of those anyway so...
kind of a bummer. Wanted to cruise a bit but such is life. She's still awfully pretty!

That blows. Strange that it didn't before. Something just not tight?

I'm betting on a freeze plug. . .
Actually it's the rad. I was noticing that the frame was not tight on the pass side of the radiator .. one of the spot welds must've let go. I think because of that and that it was moved around so much something let go near or at the lower tank. Gonna pull it tomorrow then run it up to the shop Monday for a pressure test. Hopefully it's not a recore cuz that would be a ways out for me financially .. if it's just a fix, i should have her up n running mid next week.

what size rad is it?

sounds about right. I MAY have a 26" rad in my hoard that I'll sell to ya cheap if yours needs a re-core. Ill check tonight and if it's good (which IIRC it is) we can talk.
Awesome, man. Thanks for that! I'm not certain it will need a re-core. I never saw any leaks anywhere on the rad when it was running. This one just sorta cropped up after removing it and moving it around the garage for a few months. I ain't no rad guy so who the hell knows, but fingers crossed, its just a repair!

I feel yer pain Gavin. You did all this work and poured all this $$$$ into her, and now she shits the bed just as your ready for your first cruise. You will not be defeated!! lol

Hey man, what ya gonna do? In all reality, I didn't just buy her to cruise .. as itchy as I am to do so! In the many years that I owned my 68, I never even realized how much I loved working on that car ... or any other car I owned.
After 13 years of owning stuff I either couldn't work on or just didn't care about working on, I was very excited to turn a wrench again ... and honestly, she's been a peach so far.. not so much as a single stubborn bolt (aside from the balancer bolt but I was just using the wrong tool).
The only part that sux is money. Back in the days of my first monaco, I could take my whole damned paycheck and blow it on her and the only person who starved was me... not so much anymore!
Just a few more days of "vrrrooooom vrrrrooooooomm" I guess!

Happy birthday to ME. Spending my Birthday doing my 3rd favorite thing next to hanging with my family and makin stuff... fixing stuff.

Got the rad back together for 90 bucks, plopping her in. Fire her up tonight or tomorrow!
