GJS's 1967 Dodge Monaco 500: Beverly

Of course I got the name wrong. Sorry about that. GARAGA is a fine Canadian product that I don't know if it is available in your area. We had 2 door installed on the garages in our house. It was a 7' low height application and they used something called Super Sneaky hardware. That was several years ago and it has worked flawlessly since.

Nice! Never heard of em down here and never had a garage when I lived in Canada. I'm drawing a blank on the manufacturer of our new doors but anything has to be better than the crapola hanging there now!

Finally some tolerable weather! Changed the oil, cleaned and gapped the plugs, messed with the edelbrock... still a little in the lean side I think but not spewing black ... so.. better.

Gotta come to terms with the age of this motor. I keep thinking through some miracle of tinkering she's gonna spiff up but truth be told she's tired. I'm thinking I'll put her on the road this summer, throw and alignment at her and cruise. This fall, I'll yank the motor and tranny and get cracking on that while I'm under ice. Also started picking at the carpet and finding some crappy stuff underneath. Whatever, man. Still love the hell out of her. Got a lot of love on the road and in my driveway today. Most notably an older gent in a Hellcat who made it clear how boss he thought Bev was.

Glad to have *something* like spring in the air and I hope those of you getting the same had as awesome a day as I did.

Sounds like a good plan, Gav.

Glad to see you and Bev are all settled in.
Oh yea, we good. Everything is just sort of kind of where I need it both in the garage and the shop.... by that I mean it's on a table somewhere!

"Good enough for the gals I go out with." as they say.

You should perform a leakdown test.
That's on the list though I'm rather confident that the results will be sub par. I've got a pretty substantial and constant stream of smoke coming out of the breather cap... I mistook that for oil on the manifold which there is but not due to my own sloppiness. It drips out of the breather when the engine runs.

I agree with Matt and would recommend that you do it after she's been driven through the summer.

I personally would try adding one quart of ATF and run the engine for 15-20 minutes the day before your next oil change. Run it again just before draining the oil and replace both the oil and the filter.

If it wasn't such a PITA, I would just fill/soak the cylinders for a day and pump out the mess with the spark plugs removed. Getting any stuck rings moving again will likely change your compression and leak down results dramatically.

Check your PCV system for function and consider a new breather and valve. At idle there should be a strong vacuum at the valve and still strong enough at the breather to hold a stiff piece of paper/cardboard... like the stuff they pack Twinkies on. Things like grommet condition and oil cap seals can affect this too.

It's also normal for oil to get into the breather at low vacuum times, as blowby gasses are drawn through both the breather and the valve during those conditions (higher loads and WOT).

Thanks for that, man. I'm gonna keep messing with her all summer before deciding solidly on a rebuild and this is all stuff I should be working on. I hope that I can get by for at least another couple of seasons, especially as I'm way more concerned about the front end than I am the engine ... I'd really like to get that cleared up this summer!

What a friggin month!
So, inside of a week:

My land went on the market Monday of last week.
I bought a burly truck to haul crap with Tuesday.
I put my cat down Wednesday (I won't belabor the absolute sh***iness of that experience but I know you guys get it)
My land SOLD on Thursday, closing on the 30th.

The crappy part aside, the sale of that land allows us to:

A.) Pay off my wife's car (the truck was cheapo by comparison so we'll just deal with that.)

B.) Pay off the one blood sucking credit card we have

C.) add some new machinery to the shops (namely a jointer for the wood shop)

Most importantly and pertinent to this thread, Bev is getting registered and heading to a front end shop ASAP after closing. Her front end being the only thing I'm truly worried about for short distance summer cruising, this basically insures that I'll get some miles in this summer while picking through some other issues she has.

I'm so stoked to drive her down the road legally!

Just went through that myself. Condolences.

That will help you forget. Enjoy" !

That's a lot of "good news, bad news" there... Very sorry to hear about your cat. I am interested to see how the shop does with your car, I don't imagine there are many that are excited to do the work.

What kind of jointer?

There's ONE shop. It's about a half hour away and there is a slow traffic-y way there and a fast traffic-y way there. These guys tend to really like dealing with older rides so we'll see what they have to say.

I have a 6” Jet which I love but I’d like one with a bigger table, time to upgrade. Drum sander is next though.

Damn. That Powermatic is enough to make me cry.
I had an old General 10" cabinet saw with a home made biesemeyer type fence way back when. I miss being able to chuck sheets at that thing. 4'x8' is no fun to impossible on my ShopSmith... but money being what it is.

I got that General for 175 bucks from a Humidor builder who gave me a ton of nice wood with it. I've got five 8'x 6" boards of rough cut tiger maple left from that load of stuff which is on the slate to become a guitar in the next few months, hence the need of a jointer.

Sure picked some expensive stuff to get involved in!

I love my powermatic and it’s not my only one.:)

Yes, it’s a 20” and I use the heck out of it!

As would I! I'm hoping to invest some serious coin in my new shop over the next few years. I'd really like to get out of my present job and start building again once equipped enough to do so. Nothing has been quite as rewarding in my experience.
