GJS's 1967 Dodge Monaco 500: Beverly

Welp, richened up the carb and threw a lil more advance at her. Still feels a tad hesitant to me but I'm not sure. I have to bear in mind that I'm dealing with a 4500 lb car with 100,000 on the clock that was in no way intended to be a performance car. All that said, cruises along at 45 quite happily.
Steering ain't that bad either. Bumped the ride height up a bit (could use more) and a lot of the right favoring tracking went away... more so when under power which makes me think it just needs more.
Just a friggin thrill to drive her. I forgot how many confused looks you get in cars like this... I mean, a bunch of thumbs up but about as many "what the f***?" Oh well, we mock what we don't understand.
Took my mom out for her 71st birthday for a short ride. She was a big fan of my 68 when I had her and was just as stoked to get a cruise in Bev. Next ride along is with the wife!

Cruise with the wife was outstanding. Got her up to 55 for a good 15 minutes of it. I think that's enough for now, still a little walleyed for me to trust her beyond that but it sure was nice to feel the wind!

Take the distributor apart and get rid of the heavy spring then time it for 34 to 36 total. Make sure the distributor is is in good shape and that the weights move freely.

I bet that if you install a new set of points and condenser, and set the timing, your hesitation problem will go away.

She's runnin Pertronix. I don't get the feeling that the hesitation is ignition related anyway .. feels like a starvation issue. Oh well, I gots all kinds o time to play!

What carb did you put on it?
1406. I've got the primaries in a good position I think. Choke is pretty much dead on. Perhaps the secondaries need a little more.

A few other potential issues I've seen: She stays pretty cool (like just inside or below the "acceptable" line on the idiot gauge) which I'm assuming is incorrect or stuck thermostat. Also (and I've not let into her enough to find out much) she doesn't seem to want to kick down when I feel she should. That and the tranny leak at the selector shaft but I'm just topping her off for the time being. I'll fix that up before she is officially on the road.

Wow, thanks man! I remember doing a lot of work on my 440 way back when and now vaguely remember changing out the nozzle after getting frustrated with the lack of change with pump throw adjustments, primaries, secondaries and whatnot. Springs/weights in the nozzle not so much.. knowing myself as I do, that damned spring and/or weight is still sitting in the driveway in Washington state.

Well, cranked up as far as I'm comfortable with. She tracks ok save for the play in the system. I'll have to get at a front end rebuild this winter and a good alignment.
Next up, screw with the carb per advice here... or just go for a short drive... or both. Damn, I missed this ****!

Part of a drive... gorgeous day. Still got a lot to work on but she's moving and happy.
This was the first part of my trip to the gas station to fill up. Quick 60 bucks!

Nice weekend of tuning and driving. Found out that my heat and AC work .. only issue being the thermostat as she doesn't make much heat. Was just going around the neighborhood, not really breaking 55 then got ballzy, dropped the ride height just a smidgen and took it on the highway. 75 was no big issue, floated along and tracked nicely. Something is definitely off about the kickdown linkage, I've not matted it but it doesn't seem to kick down when I think it should. After the highway run I got her up on a jack and my passenger side wheel bearing was loose. Going to have to replace the fronts next weekend and replace a bunch of bulbs in the tail lights .. I think I have one on each side which just don't look right .. and, er, is pretty unsafe .. and against the law.

Atta girl! Rid her of a poorly wired third light and replaced them bulbs. Now to deal on them pesky wheel bearings.

Welp, probably the first snow she's ever seen. Gonna have to sit out all night and day tomorrow as we are finally getting new garage doors. Haven't started her in a month but tho its about 15 below with windchill, she fired right up.
We're both very excited for spring!

Garda doors?
I don't know what Garda doors refers to.
Just getting standard overheads with new lifts and rails. The PO took the original wood framed doors and nailed 3/4" cedar to the outside doubling the weight of the doors. Overtime, the lifts burnt out and the door frames started to sag... not the brightest bulbs in the box.

Of course I got the name wrong. Sorry about that. GARAGA is a fine Canadian product that I don't know if it is available in your area. We had 2 door installed on the garages in our house. It was a 7' low height application and they used something called Super Sneaky hardware. That was several years ago and it has worked flawlessly since.
