Manual A/C in Formal's to me is so much easier to troubleshoot/repair/maintain. Both of my Formal's have the manual systems.

That's because, you're right. When it comes to AC the KISS principle is best. Other than the complexity, my biggest complaint with ATC is that I cannot control the fan speed myself. I far prefer having a fan speed switch.

I have ATC in my 07 Titan. It has an override control where I can manipulate fan speed control at will. Too bad Chrysler didn't have that 40 years ago.

Correct. Mercedes Benz bought the license from Chrysler Corp to the first generation Autotemp II and kept using it into the 80's.

And Mercedes upgraded the bakelite water valve/housing to metal which Performance Analysis Company also took advantage of for their rebuilds. PAC units have worked well for me. But I too would rather just have it manual - life isn't so tough that I can't control the a/c the way I want it, not the computer's idea of what I want. Also, in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Chrysler a/c systems didn't have enough capacity to keep up with the heat here in California and I suspect Florida and other regions when it got hot, so they just stay on high all the time.

On the other hand, the a/c in my 1997 Chrysler Concorde would probably be sufficient to cool my whole house, and the auto temp control for that unit is really very good, although they allow a manual over ride for the fan speed if you desire. And the engine never gets hot ever even in the hottest temperatures. Nice.

A modern parallel flow condenser with two pusher fans increased the efficiency of my A/C (w/R134A)
enough where I can now say that it's as cold as a modern system even here in South-Central FL in Aug.

The only additional problem is the fan doesn't push the air fast enough thru the cabin. But then again, it's a big honking cabin, right? :D

Tinted glass reduced the load tremendously.

I'm going to tint my cars too. Saves the interior too!

I don't like Formal's but my God is that thing PERFECT! the interior is like it was made by Angels if I had the space and money I would be all over that thing. I never wanted to sit in a car so bad.

OK. Put me on record there's a shill.
I've been watching the bidding on this since day 1.

s***u first and only bid was some obscene amount from his opening bid.
Nobody is an opening bidder throwing out still an unknown amount that looks like it's in the stratosphere. You bid and then watch the rest of the bids and go from there. I smell bullshit.

Yep .... Smells bad from here too. I thought it might be a high proxy but the pattern doesn't show that.
r**r looks like he's getting sucked into a bidding trap.

I'm just wondering how the paint fell off the oil cap, how the air cleaner wing nut made the lid rusty, what happened to the Lean Burn pie plate and why the ashtray is askew. Was someone looking at that car every now and then but not driving it?

And the right hand remote control mirror lever is bent.

They are all bent. They were designed like that. Every Formal I have seen has the bent control.

And nothing tells me that the mileage isn't real. I'm picturing a real nutcase having possession of it all this time.

I took a leap of faith at ten grand.
Where it is right now demands a personal inspection by the best of the best.

This won't be the last time we see this car.

This car will be for sale numerous times for a long, long time........

Well, it did make reserve....
So mission accomplished with this flipper.

But it aint going to Sebring.

What a beautiful car! I know I'm a little biased, but those New Yorkers could hold their own with the Cadillacs & Lincolns anytime. Their Achilles's heel was the ATC II system, (a service nightmare) & the Lean Burn system (eliminate it & run a standard electronic ignition system). That car could be in a museum but it would be more fun to drive it.

It will be interesting to see how this one goes and if the transaction is actually completed.

If I found a one of one Formal with 16 original miles on it..........I would drive the daylights out of it. Even if it was one of none with a Hemi. I wouldn't drive it in the snow but would drive it the rest of the year.

Typical. As soon as it made the reserve, the bidding died at 14 five.

Now I'm getting that tingly feeling that one gets when you just know the listing will get pulled on the last day of the auction.
