How to adjust full throttle up shift on 727?

An issue that I have on my 62 300 Sport w/ 727: Full throttle up shifts are way too early. I don’t have a tachometer on the car, but I’m guessing the upshift RPM is under 4000 RPM. Have checked every portion of the linkage for proper operation and adjustment, it’s working as it should.
It will downshift it full throttle properly, but the upshift points are much too early.

Wondering about two issues: the transmission appears to have been rebuilt at some point and I’m wondering if mechanically something is out of adjustment inside the transmission, not allowing a valve full movement(?) Is there a governor issue that I may be able to adjust to raise the upshift points?

I have zero experience with the 727 and thought I would start here to see any of you have dealt with this issue?

I'd start with the kickdown linkage. Adjust one way to fix a late shift or the other way to fix a hard shift. I don't recall which way is which.

Read up on it in the Factory Service Manual

The "default" has always worked for me.

It’s adjusted according to the factory service manual. I’ve also checked the throttle valve to make sure it’s reaching it’s full travel at wide open throttle so I don’t have any reason to think it’s an external issue. Either something inside of the transmission is not allowing the throttle valve to move as far as it should or there’s an issue with the upshift governor? When I put the 440 in the car I would like it to upshift at about 5000 RPM. Willing to modify as necessary to get it there.
Back in the day, I remember driving more than a couple HP 383-440 cars And the factory shift points and full throttle RPM were spot on. Would like my transmission to operate like one of those.

Tighten the kickdown linkage to raise the shift rpm. The kickdown lever pin on the throttle should be at the back of the kickdown lever slot. (depending on what your linkage looks like) The Poly in my 64 doesn't have that kind of linkage so the slot I spoke of may not be on yours. Too far and you will have to back off the throttle to get it to upshift. As far as I know, the governor controls the upshifts.

Not gonna be much help, but here goes. 4000 rpm is kinda high really....seems like thats not an early shift. You make no mention of the mph..... both factor in when you are discussing the governor, as it is located on the output shaft ( or runs at that speed im meaning to say). You can buy governer springs to raise those points from A&A trans and others, but you are going to have to work on the valve body (with a kit) to deviate far from factory spec. Somewhere FSM maybe? there is a chart for shift speeds that are typical for a given car. The speeds listed are pretty slow, and early 727s are worse FWIR. Sorry couldnt be more help.
