In my 1968 Newport the front (bumper) side maker lights aren’t working.

How, exactly, do you change the bulbs? I don’t want to break anything.

The bulb housing spins in the chrome piece but it won’t pull out (I don’t want to strong arm it if I’m doing it wrong!).

Note the threads on the back of the unit, Pretty sure the large circular flange should unscrew to expose the bulb.

Those threads are for a very large nut that holds the housing into the bumper.

They appear to be part of the chrome casting that holds the lense (?).

In that case, check the back side of the bezel to see if there are any screws holding it together, might be under the sealing goo.

I do have the Service Manual and it does not show how to change any bulbs (would that be the owners' manual?).

That picture must be from the factory parts book.

Note that the bulb housing has two sets of threads. One to screw into the bezel, and the other for the retaining nut. So, as noted, it unscrews from the bezel to access the bulb.

Thank you, gentlemen! That bulb was a pain to get out and the new one in...

However, it is now working!!!

I love the side marker lights for 1968.

Now for the other side.

It’s all good.

We got the last (second) changed last night.

Sure makes the car look good.

I just got the car home last week and am trying to go through everything and get it up to spec.
