Wickedly cool RB Stroker Newport!
Well, with the additional information that sets your Newport apart from a plain jane factory stock one, you get a pass from me at least.
I didn't want the look of the BFG's logos so I just flipped them to the inside and have black tires. You could do that if you like the look and the Dog Dishes. That's what I did.I have BFG RWL's on my Fury and it's a pain to keep the letters white. Apparently they changed the manufacturing process at some point and now the letters are prone to turning brown.
Yep, brown letters are a real thing and BFG are replacing them. Found this video and decided to give it a shot. Got my 5 year old tires replaced -- just had to pay for balancing/mounting.I have BFG RWL's on my Fury and it's a pain to keep the letters white. Apparently they changed the manufacturing process at some point and now the letters are prone to turning brown. I clean them with Brillo pads. Anyway, back to your hubcaps.... they suit your car but I personally prefer the black steelies with "dog dish" or "poverty caps" or no caps at all with the RWL's. Not what I have on my car but were I to change I'd probably go with cop wheels and no caps or cop caps for a moonshine runner look and turn the RWL's inside so they wouldn't show.
I love the look of dog dishes, I just think they get over-used these days. The great variety of factory wheel covers that one could get have all been replaced with Cragars, Torq Thrusts and dog dishes (and road wheels on C-bodies!), and it's a shame to see that great variety - and great look of what people actually drove back then - lost to modern trends. saforwardlook is right on the money.Newport's, being an entry level car, came with dog dishes unless the customer ordered wheel covers [at least in the mid 60s]. I don't know if you'd call that ridiculous . . . I happen to love them!
I like those wheel covers/caps, but the rims should be car color, chrome or black.
Interesting! The guy in my area with dog dishes (besides myself) is driving a Hemi RoadRunner. Good conversation!I love the look of dog dishes, I just think they get over-used these days. A lot of cars came with dog dishes standard, but you tended to see people spring for at least basic wheel covers back then; what was a sign of poverty being turned into a status symbol is kinda odd. I know it comes from the whole "sleeper" vibe, of a super-basic car with a big engine, but it's been so over-done that, as soon as you see dog dishes, one assumes it's probably a muscle car, thereby completely destroying the "sleeper" concept LOL.
