Nick..... With the talent you have displayed already at your age an apprenticeship in auto repair seems like a waste of time to me..... Your way ahead of the curve.... And I can't see you being satified with a career doing brake jobs on the line.

Check around your area for a specialty...custom...fab shop and hone your skills there. There are plenty of line mechanics out there...... Not so many talented metal fab people.

The most sought after and highest paid guy in a NASCAR shop is the body sheet metal fab guy. The mechanics come and go.

I regret not buying the '69 Impala I looked at. Period.

This Mopar thing sucks, No parts availability, Other Bodystyles don't like each other,

Okay, lets be serious for a moment,

Can I flip this car and make my Money back, MAYBE, and I'll be stuck with it for a while, plus I have to PAY to have it appraised, then I can PAY the sales tax so I Can PAY to put it in my name to sell it.

I have Fuel and Trailer rental to go get it, I then will probably have to PAY to store it someplace.

So incase your wondering I've done LOTS of thinking

$54 a day for the trailer, plus $32 for insurance on it
atleast $200 in Fuel
$600 in Vehicle cost
$50 for an appraisal
Plus the 13% of appraised value, which as a #5 car (total rebuild) is $1050, therefore $136.50 in taxes
Plus the $20 for a used vehicle package your forced to buy

Plus whatever costs I'm forgetting

So thats $1092.50 lets say an even $1100

Thats 3 weeks pay plus $50

I currently have a $135.51 insurance payment due and a $43.57 phone bill due, and I had to put $40 in my truck today, you do the math, then understand why I haven't pulled the trigger.

Nick

TRUST ME, IF I HAD THE MONEY AND A PLACE TO KEEP IT, I WOULD HAVE IT, honestly it's killing me that I can't guys, it really is.

FWIW, I'd pass on it. Just my 2 cents, but every time I come across a "a deal of a lifetime" I think about where else I could also use that $600 on my current project, a new interior, some wheels, or tires, the top, paint, on and on. Not to mention the time needed to flip it. My dad used to say, when you see something you didn't know you wanted, take a walk around the block. When you think you've made up your mind, take a walk the other way and keep walking. No truer words were disregarded by me at age 17, and man I'll tell you that's what I regret. I think we've all been there. Ivy is your one true love, and when she is done nothing else will matter. In the next 40 or so years you will have plenty of time, money and space to drag many projects out of the weeds, but you never forget your first love.

James

Should I say I told you so now........or?......................I had a feeling thats why I didn't rush or get the cash scraped together................yeah.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, My Momma Raised not 1 fool out of the 6 she raised (my 3 siblings, myself and 2 cousins)

Your turning wrenches for $350.00 +/- a week.....? With your talents..... No wonder your boss loves you.

I'm not a Mechanic, thats a demeaning term in my industry now, I never asked for a raise for one reason

How can you hit a person for money they don't have?

In actuality in about a month I will be seeing a pay increase due to my graduation to level 2 Status as an Apprentice Red Seal Class A Automotive Service Technician

Not a bumpling grease brake or oil change mechanic, the joke in the industry around me is that if you can't make it in an independant sector you work for a franchise shop (usually Canadian Tire or Mr. Lube etc.)

As for a fabrication shop, I thought about it, but I figure if I do my hobby everyday for 35 years I can see myself hating what I enjoy.

I'd rather do something I do enjoy and leave the other part of it for my personal time.

James you summed it up pretty damn good, I talked it over with a few older friends (wiser too) and came to the realization that $600 I can stretch pretty damn far into "Angel", snd be one step closer to enjoying him.

Actually $600 is 4 new drums, 4 new bearings (inner & Outer), a new master, all new lines (brake & Fuel), 4 Wheel cylinders, 2 spring kits, 2 sets of shoes, and some other smaller bits & pieces.

Nick

This is why I drive a truck I like them I like driving and I don't want wrenching or any level of wrenching on some asswipes Hyundai to mess up the enjoyment of working on mine or my bro in-law cars. Also the 1100 would go a ways with the projects you already have, bird in hand worth two in bush, there will be more opertunities your young. When you get old like me then you should pull trigger cause time is running out

Beyond your years Nick...

"if you would like the car I would let it go for $500 if you could pick it up within a week as I am
cleaning out my yard and will be sending it to scrap within a week -----thanks"

Nick

I asked him to hold it one additional week till I can go down and grab a few dozen parts off it.
