I know you hate us derby guys, but....

I just got a call from Josh "Lucky13demo"and he has a bunch of parts for my 78's ready that I'm going to pick up after Carlisle Saturday night.

Thanks Josh!

You forgot one, Bluesmobile

Alan

I've been saying that from Day 1, Bob.
Some words just automatically raise the ire and rants of people without even them thinking about it.
Derby.
Cockroach.
Hitler.
Teamster.
The first one gets a bad rap...

What about low rider? Just terrible that someone would ruin one of these beautiful old cars by altering the stock ride height....

Bluesmobile and low-riders alter the appearance but it's still keeping the car alive, and potentially reversible. Saw a young guy with his 36 inch wagon-wheeled 70's Bonneville tonight and thought, "doesn't that guy know how silly that really looks", but he had a smile on his face and the tunes were cranking, so to each his own.

Derby is another world altogether. I don't understand it, and I'm sorry, I won't accept it, period. I get the image of kids setting the neighborhood cat on fire when I think derby, to me it's just a little sick. Then again, we love these cars and they don't. I also haven't bought parts off of a Derby guy, not sure I would. I feel like I might be financing his next acquisition.

I understand some of your guys' frustration of the derby world. Setting the neighborhood cat on fire... Maybe a BIT of a stretch? Please don't forget I and a fellow derbier have restored and sold (for next to nothing) a couple 74-78s to be driven on the highway. Let us all face it: 74-78 Chrysler New Yorker Newport etc aren't worth anything to the average person. I know this from first hand experience. So, unless my next car I find is a black 2 door New Yorker or imperial, it'll be on the track. It's not worth it to sink money into these to sell for ghost dollars. The guy that cries and whines that I wrecked a 76 New Yorker because it could've been worth 2, 3, or 4 grand is the guy who won't offer scrap price when it's for sale.

Also, there is a stereotypical image of the anti derby crowd, just as much as there is one for the derby crowd. As much as you guys think all derbiers are inbred uneducated hill billies is how those very people think you're all retired prudes who have nothing better to do but pound the key board and call us dumb. this is why a lot of derbiers throw away parts off these cars that could be salvaged, so they don't have to put up with crap from *** holes.

Now, I don't feel this way. I think that most of you are normal people, and I have sold a lot of stuff to people on here.

it could actually be beneficial for you guys to keep contact with someone like me. At any given time I know where anywhere from 5-15 of these cars are sitting.

Ain't non of us normal...

All kidding aside, I get Mckinnon's statements. The interest and money just isn't there like it is with A's, B's, E's. The Sport Fury I picked up from a derby guy is practically rust free but I was the only one interested in saving it. He most definitely would have made more money selling a few unique things off the car and selling the car to a derby friend than he did selling to me. I commend him for that.

Thank you for being one of the good guys and not just indiscriminately derbying every full- size car that you get your hands on. I will likely have to try contacting some derby guys to see if I can buy parts from them.

I don't/can't go to derbies either. Without considering the good or bad or whatever, I just can't stand to watch some of those great cars get destroyed. Knowing that some are rusted out and can't be repaired helps, but there are way too many perfectly good cars/parts destroyed that just tears my heart out.

For the fiftieth time what a incredible waste of time and energy.

When a piece of the car tears off and run through your jugular, you will not see me weeping in the stands.

Well, that is rather harsh. I don't wish ill to anyone, whether I agree with them or not.

Dislike the destruction, and no real interest in derbies... But I could learn to love the guys playing if a find a few more wholesaling thoughtfully removed parts.

The young man I bought from in July impressed the hell out of me with how hard he worked to save what he could. If he would have been willing to give up the driver's seat, I would have bought the rest of the interior to.

I'd still prefer to see the cars intact.
