It's not about speed. Maybe 50 years ago, yah.
For me, it's about being one with my machine. A perfectly orchestrated dance tween me and my partner where we each read each other's thoughts

I scratch my "driving by the seat of my pants" with this. No Frills, All Fun

The current Challenger has already run twice as long as the original did. Kinda isn't anything to evolve it into while the Chrager they can do what they want since it really has nothing other than name connecting it to the original.

And I am with you and Stan. Although my 1997 Chrysler Condorde isn't new anymore (it only has 30K miles on it and still looks new though), and itsn't really super fast, otherwise I feel the same way as you guys do about the vehicle being fully connected to the road, handles way beyond my expectations and seems to anticipate all the moves I am going to make. So I get what you mean, even though I am sure yours, Kenny at least, is even better at those qualities than mine. I don't want anything newer yet because nothing I have driven that is newer is any better than the version I have in those respects. And for my daily driver, in my case, that is what I really want.

In regards to the Leasing Myth:

Leasing is just a different way to finance a vehicle. Future Value calculations give the buyer different options than traditional declining balance front end loaded loans.

Common questions about Leasing:

You don't own it: Well until it is paid for the Bank owns it. Based on how declining balance loans work you are paying the majority of the interest to the bank at the beginning of the loan and it is only after the interest has been paid that you start taking a bigger portion of the principle. Typically you have to get 5/8ths of the way through a loan to break even against depreciation. Example a new car loan payment of $400/month has a interest/principle ratio of $350 interest to $50 principle for most of the first 4 years. By the time your outstanding loan amount is equal to the value of the vehicle it is 4-5 years old. Maintenance and repairs outside of warranty will now be a factor so cost of ownership actually rises the longer you hold onto it. Once it is paid for you have a 5-7 year old lump in the driveway worth 10% of it's initial purchase price less all the maintenance/repairs so really it's worth ZERO so you own ZERO.

It's just renting: Yup it is like renting as you are paying for the use of the vehicle. Like renting you can hand the keys back at the end of the contract and walk away. Try doing that with a Bank...

I drive too many miles to Lease: Well the Bank isn't going to give you a break because you drive a lot. With a properly designed lease mileage is accounted for in the monthly payment not as a big surprise down the road at trade in time. It is easier to absorb a smaller amount monthly then deal with a bunch of negative equity at trade in time due to mileage. The car is worth the same whether you leased it or financed it or paid cash. A 5 year old car with 100000 miles is worth what it is worth doesn't matter how you paid for it. With a lease you have a guarantee of its value and if it is not worth the guarantee it is the Leasing company's problem not yours.

I have always leased my personal cars as I want nothing to do with a modern vehicle after the warranty is up. I am always going to have a car payment so I may as well drive new cars that require very little initial maintenance and shouldn't need a lot of warranty work.

Smart man once said: You purchase an appreciating asset (C-body :) ) you Lease a depreciating asset. In other words buy the Rembrandt but Lease the Justin Beiber ..... :)

If anyone has questions about Leasing I am happy to answer...

Graham, if you dont mind, I would like to talk to you bout FCA leasing, etc. My lease is up around Christmas this year and I am thinking of going for a Ram or a Durango.

Sorry to bomb yer thread, Bob.

He's been very helpful to at the least Bob and I .

Absolutely! Graham has been a huge asset in coaching to negotiate the best price based on the dealer invoice saving me a ton of money. And there has been numerous other things that Graham has selflessly helped with (even when I'm pestering him and his wife while on a cruise) with hard to find NOS parts in North America!

Graham, I'm forever grateful and honored to call you my friend!!!!

I thought the same thing. Driving my Ram with a 5.7 and driving Challengers and Chargers with a 5.7. Then I took a Scat Pack Charger with a 6.4 out for a test drive. Holy smokes......this is a game changer! Not only the power but the feel of the steering and suspension and the 6 piston Brembo brakes. The Scat Pack has all of the Hellcat and Demon equipment except the supercharger. 6.4 engine instead of a supercharged 6.2. I'm afraid to test drive a Hellcat....I might end up doing another trade!!!!

Then you are being arrogant to think that you need to shift gears to be one with your machine . I prefer not to have a manual. The vehicle and I bond through the steering wheel, brake pedal , accelerator pedal and the suspension so even my *** cheeks can feel the cars emotions. All you're doing is beating the transmission with a stick while my machine will feel better about herself when done.
I don't think it, I know it. Sure the auto is faster, in my race car I am putting a auto, well it was automatic, now it just does not have a clutch pedal. For a road car shifting for yourself while driving aggressively there is nothing sweeter. Coming into a right hand turn at a intersection, off the brake at the last second, a quick blip of the throttle to match the rpms for the gear you heading for, by the time you start to straighten your already mashed back in and pulling hard with a little sideways action. Pulling a lever on the steering column down a click or two is just not the same.
