If Chrysler never existed what would you have

Cool old thread!
I had to think about this one. Contrary to popular belief I was not born a Mopar nut although I feel I was doomed. My first car (in 1981) was a 1955 Chevy and was totally into Corvettes as a kid. I was never into the 55 and Corvettes were probably out of my league I think I think a 68 El Caminio might have been on the list. Later years cars like the Buick Grand National and 88ish Trans Am were of my liking. It is hard to say much beyond that as I was pretty much brainwashed by then.

Ok,

I should had added a 65 Riviera and 66 Tornado, always loved those cars, could do without the Eldorado

Very nice. I have a 64 GTO as well. I put a 428 in it, but have the original 389 w/tri power sitting on a stand.

Great thread! Funny thing is, if there was no Chrysler, would the competitors cars look the way they do? As with a lot of industries, some parts of design is reactionary. Every auto maker, takes a lot of ideas from each other. They see a design, and how well it's doing, or how bad, and get ideas on how to improve, change, add to, or completely go in another direction! If there was no Chrysler, who knows what the other cars would look like. You might not like any of the cars because they might not look like they do without Chrysler or each other's influence good or bad. Just some food for thought.

Lincoln. Of 60's or early 70's Continental coupe variety.

I have always been partial to the 1966-7 Buick Riveras. The only car I view as comparable to a 1970 Chrysler 300 fuselage design in terms of eye appeal.......

I had my eyes on a 70 Caprice Ragtop before buying my Polara.

The pics looked awesome in Craigslist but it turned out to be a bait with photos from another car..

The real one was an absolute POS!!!

This is like 1 I did own but turned it into a dirt racing car.

I'll see if I can find a photo of it..

Probably something garish from AMC like a S/C Rambler, 71-74 Javelin, 70-71 Torino, 69 Chevelle

I guess I'd drive a fullsize 65-68 Buick, Pontiac or Oldsmobile convertible like this 68 Olds:061.jpg

With non-Mopars, I like Pontiac and Hudson, primarily. The asterisk are the ones I have actually owned:

Far as FoMoCo goes, I've either owned or want to own the following:
1) '66 Mustang GT coupe, 289 4-speed, air, Rallye-Pac, Shelby wheels. Red/black*
2) ''63 Galaxie 500, 406 4-speed, 3x2 carbs, white/white, steel wheels, no caps
3) '66 Fairlane GT, 390 auto, blue/blue, Cragar SS
4) '63 Thunderbird coupe, 390, 3x2, auto, white/black top/red interior

GM:
1) '66 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, 389, Tri-Power, air, triple red, 8-lug wheels*
2) '71 Buick Skylark GS, 455 auto, Saturn Yellow, white interior
3) '67 Chevy Impala SS fastback, 396 auto, Marina Blue, Rallye wheels*
4) '63 - '65 Buick Riviera coupe, silver/blue interior
5) '66 Toronado
6) '68 ElDorado convertible
7) '69 Chevy Nova SS 427

Others:
1) '53 Hudson Hornet convertible, Texas Tan/Ivory, 308, Twin-H carbs, red leather interior
2) '63 Studebaker Avanti, 289 R4 package, withe/red interior
3) '56 Studebaker Golden Hawk
4) '70 AMC Hornet, 360 4-bbl, gold/tan interior
5) '69 AMC AMX, blue/white, 401 4-speed

What's weird is that my Dad was a Ford guy who owned a lot of GM products. My first car (at age 12) was a '52 Plymouth Cranbrook sedan I paid ten bucks for - and drove it home! My bro-in-law is a huge Mopar guy who worked in many capacities for Chrysler from 1965 - 2011, so he is who I got the Mopar bug from...even though he, too, owned many hot Chevys back in the day - a gasser '56 Chevy 210, a stock 63 Corvette split-window and a '65 Stingray ragtop.

My Dad had a 58 Triumph Estate Wagon when I was a kid. If I ever stumble across one....

Although there are three GM cars I might one day like to own (63 Grand Prix, 65 GTO convertible, 63-67 Corvette convertible) and there are a couple AMC's I've always liked (67 Rebel SST convertible, 68-69 AMX), I think that if Chrysler never existed, I would probably be a Ford owner. My parents always had Fords, and my older brother always had Fords when I was growing up, so I probably would have stayed in the Ford family. Since I currently own seven old Mopars, and since there are seven old Fords on my wish list, I guess the seven old cars I would have instead of my Mopars would be...
67-68 Cougar
68 Mercury Cyclone GT fastback
67 Ranchero 500 XL
66 Mustang GT hardtop
65 Mustang convertible
65 T-bird convertible
66 Country Squire wagon

Very cool question, as I am a Chevy guy.

If Chevy did not exist, I would have Plymouths. Lots of 66 Hemi Chargers, a 70 Hurst 300, a 67 Satellite (Hemi of course), a Six Barrel ANYTHING, and whatever else crosses my path.

And ZERO Fords and Imports. ever

If Ma Mopar never existed......

well
1) 64 Ford Galaxy
2) 66 Fairlane
3) 68 Torino
