It finally happened A Tesla car that crashed and killed the driver was running on Autopilot

From what I read, the driver was a Tesla test driver and as such should know exactly what the system is designed to do. He should have been paying attention, maybe the car's AI locked him out. Now there is a scary thought.

If he was the tester he obviously was not doing his job. Having worked in the software industry doing QA/QC work, paying attention was paramount to being an effective "tester".

Is this not the exact type of accident this system was built to avoid? Apply the brakes at a safe distance before having an accident? I can’t wait to see the onboard camera of the test driver , I wonder if he was looking at his phone when the accident happened?

Well I was wrong about one thing but right about another. The accident happened in Utah not California, but the 28 year old woman admitted to watching her phone and not the road while driving. This lady deserves to be sued for damages Along with Tesla ! I’m starting to think we have to treat watching your phone like drinking and driving.Take there license and car away . It’s like playing Russian roulette with a car. It’s obvious the auto pilot has major limitations.

Yea Elon Musk was crying foul on Twitter this morning newz, didn't pay too much attention as I had the sound off and was listening to Radio Ulster, but in the scroll bars was something about sort cutting sensors, cost cut, lack of...???

Hey but Uber is revising it's 'Sexual Harassment' policy!

(edit) on news now it's, Hey but Uber is revising it's 'Sexual Assault' policy!

sheeeech.

No matter how many safeguards you put into place about anything, there's enough stupid people allowed to consume space and oxygen to find a way around it.
I have given up totally with society and all humankind.

I think tesla’s Days are numbered , their stock dropped 1.8 % yesterday , the company has been bleeding $ for a long time !

I totally agree with you. I have been working on automobiles since 1969, (yeah long time), I have seen many good and bad things with cars along the way. People today depend on all the new gadgets and forget about learning some driving skills. I have said many times I wish we could go back to the old days, and that as technology comes up with something new, we as humans take a step back from where we used to be. The best thing they could do today, is stop cell phones from being used while the vehicle is in motion except to call 911. I also believe that every person who gets a drivers licence in this country should have to take a mechanical course on automobiles. Their are just to many idiots out on the roads today who try to do things with a car that was never designed into them. God help us all.

Mr Musk has been drinking to much of his own koolaid ! He is now saying the media is paying to much attention to Tesla car accidents and not enough to every day fender benders! This is such BS. ! This man made his company famous by being a media sponge . Every time he needs cash to finance his company he just invents another money losing car, truck That may or may not get built, he can’t build the vehicles he promised a year and a half ago. Hummm can you say Ponzi scheme

Current generation of drivers seem to feel they are entitled to everything, all the time. When they made texting unlawful here it made things worse. People went from holding the phone up in the open to down on their lap, out of sight, and now they are looking down. No peripheral vision to save them.
Problem with trying to make changes to how vehicles deal with phones(restricting calls to 911 only, no sms or txt etc) is as soon as it gets released, it will be hacked and defeated. I think every vehicle sold should have the ability to call 911 right from factory, using factory components already in most cars and only via handfree. Allowing internet in a vehicle was not a good move.
I think we need to start holding people accountable for decisions they make. If you make the decision to start reading the owners manual while your car is on the current phase of auto-pilot and your car kills someone, you need to be treated like a criminal and be charged with some form of murder. You knowingling made a decision knowing full well the possible outcomes. I sat current phase because you are warned repeatedly that this is still is in a not final state of development. The people that say "if I have to hold the steering wheel, and pay attention, what's the point?" have the right attitude. You have to know that most will just keep pressing "next" until it engages, not having read a single word. Be interesting to see if this woman changes her driving after this crash.

Bwahahaha..

Tesla in autonomous mode hits parked police car

San Francisco (AFP) - Police in a Southern California coastal town said that a Tesla in autonomous mode hit a patrol car parked on the side of a road on Tuesday.

No one was in the patrol car when the collision took place in the late morning, the Laguna Beach Police Department said in a message posted along with photos on Twitter.

Just on the 6 o'clock news tonight here in Central Florida is another lawsuit for a self driving Telsa accident filed by the kids of famous ambulance chaser John Morgan.

WATCHOUT!
