Just bought a 78 New Yorker

Just drove this one home. 78 New Yorker Brougham. 2dr with 45k miles. 440 4 barrel. She needs a work, paint is oxidized window motors don't work. Other than that she's ready to drive any were.

Yeah, I am going to try and bring the paint back. Want to keep her close to original. The guy I bought her from had a set of new olds stock skirts and the mounting hard ware in the trunk he just hadn't had time to put them on yet.

Hadn't seen it on this site at least not recently. It had been on Facebook for a few weeks then he dropped the price fron $7500 to $5900 and I knew I had to go look at it. I couldn't leave her there for that price. I thought my 69 was in good shape when I got but this one is damn near perfect.

I'll get a pic of the fender tag tomorrow, but it doesn't have any mounting hardware for skirts under the fender.

in 78 skirts were optional unless you had a Salon, then they were a mandatory option

Got back over to my brother's this morning and he already had it pulled into the shop. We are going to see if we can get the ac and the drivers window working again. Did get a few more pics.
5th pic we tried doing a quick buff. I think she will clean up pretty nice.
6th pic is the only wtf we have found. The original owner must have really hated shoulder belts. He just cut them off. Not sure of the best way to fix them.

Those fender skirts may not work here, why? if there is a wheel lip for the screws to go into for the rear wheel trim. That is typically about 1/2" wide and cars with skirts have no wheel lip. Look at your skirts to see what I mean. The top two fasteners slide to the inside top of the rear quarter.

Very nice find. I have a 1978 NYer Brougham that I have been working on for several years if you have any questions. My major project was to replaced the Lean Burn system with an Edelbrock carb and an electronic ignition.

As for the power windows, other than an electrical issue, it may be the grease in the window motors is preventing movement. Look on this site for instructions - comments on how to remove the power window motors and replace the lubricant - grease in the motor / gear housing. I had to do that for all four of my windows and replace the plastic gear in one of them.

If you need assistance with with the windshield wiper plastic cam to a metal fabricated fix, I posted a thread awhile ago with instructions.
